Fwiw this dude loves to talk but this is what he said about that interception

Not sure how this will come off but I often wonder about the QBs that get like 4 INTs in a season. Are they so in tune with their WRs tendencies that they know not to throw that pass? I’m not saying this to assign undue blame on Fields. I’m just generally curious about what attributes the top QBs have that allow them to avoid making those types of INTs even if they are the WR’s fault.

I know he hasn't had an off-season with the system and it's kind of unfair to judge him mid-season but I'm getting real bad vibes on the Claypool trade. He just....looks very bad out there when you even get a chance to see him play. Hopeful that I'm wrong and jumping to conclusions on this one, but it would hurt real bad to trade the 2nd or 3rd pick in the 2nd round for a guy who just ain't that good.

It's probably day-of overreactions about another game I thought we'd be able to hold onto (despite not really caring what our record is at the end of the year) but man it's feeling daunting what Poles is going to have to do over the off-season to make this a competitive team. Need so much help to make this a playoff team. They have unlimited resources to get there, but it means being right and out-competing other teams for FA talent they're going to need.

In a way that's exciting for Poles, he gets to rebuild the roster with nearly unlimited freedom. But he's got to hit on everyone from here on out. So, we shall see.

Unless he’s a magic man with the golden touch it’s going to take more than one offseason. I’m looking for significant improvement and hopefully meaningful games in December. It’ll be 2024 when the Bears are a serious threat, best case.

It’s already been one offseason. This upcoming one is his 2nd. Let’s not retroactively give him more of a benefit of the doubt than he’s due. He’s got this offseason to make major improvements and if the 2023 has similar issues you have to think about moving on. This team is all about one guy he had nothing to do with acquiring.

Claypool seemed to start having a connection w/ Fields. He had those back to back catches, including the play he fumbled, before he got hurt. Those were the only 2 plays that weren't designed to go to him just for the sake of using him. His other 3 catches were all screen passes, and all 4 of his other targets were.

Speaking of screens, damn this felt like Getsy was really trying to not win this game. Getsy called pass on 6 of the 9 first down plays that Fields lined up at QB (there was a 1st down wildcat play, which why are you running wildcat when your QB is the biggest run threat there is?). It was 16-3 thru that point, and then a kneel down before going to halftime.

First drive on the 2nd half- End around, penalty, 2nd and 14 run, 3rd and 5 throw behind the LOS to Claypool, without extreme off coverage nor was it an actual screen play with blockers set up. Just a behind the line, 1-on-1 throw.

Second drive of 2nd half- Run, Run, again behind the line pass that's not a screen, QB run (may have been a scramble), 24 yard pass to Kmet on 3rd and long, run, run with Evans, 3rd and long run w/ Evans that works, wildcat formation penalty, 1st and 19 run, 2nd and 24 short pass to Montgomery (essentially designed to work as a run play)

Third drive of 2nd half- deep to Harry 49 yards, checkdown to Montgomery for negative yards, 2nd and 12 run, 3rd and 5 run up the middle

By the time the Bears get the ball again, they were behind with less than 5 minutes to play.

Fields was damn near perfect throwing at that point with just 2 incompletions and at least 3 completions over 20 air yards, so it's not like he was having a bad game or his numbers were being boosted by a bunch of run after catch plays.

Completely agree. Some of those play calls were so headscratching that I almost hope that it was him trying to tank.

I forget the exact details, but there's minimum spending rules over multiple years that hit the Bears hard next year. They literally have to be incredibly active in free agency.

With Fields hitting his stride, there's zero reason they can't be contenders next year.

As a Packer fan this year has been extremely frustrating. But then I realize the Bears QB is something called Justin Fields and the Packers back up is Jordan Love who would be the best QB in the division if he was starting and I realize life could be worse I guess.

They will be playoff caliber next year. They've been in most games this year with very limited talent on the field. The division is going to start flipping next year where the Lions and Bears are the elite teams in the division.

I feel like it will be fairly easy for Poles to rebuild the defense and offensive line via FA and before the draft and the draft itself will just be building depth and talent where it's lacking.

Hey guys, check out the cute delusional Packers troll who registered just to make this lame attempt at denying his worst fears.

Saw that earlier. Thought maybe someone might approve that post long enough for a few people to get a laugh before Modzilla made a very rare appearance and blasted this clown to the moon.

At minimum we should expect marked improvement on both sides of the ball, there's no reason whatsoever this cannot happen. Hell, just drafting Will Anderson alone means QB's won't have an infinite amount of time to pass. Draft Anderson and sign any fairly decent DL and plays like the TD pass to Watson don't happen as often. There's isn't a GM in history who's hit on everyone but, Poles has to hit on the day 1 and 2 picks along with a FA on each side of the ball and really, that isn't all that daunting. It's highly possible, I think even a remotely good GM could get it right.

It would seem to me that they could go crazy on free agent signings and then offer up extensions where warranted. Couldn't they also frontload some contracts where needed?

If you read through that whole tweet there's some baseline scenarios.

But I'd say FA wise, their top 6 signings will account for at least 60-70M in AAV contracts, unless they really go crazy with extensions, but looking at the extension list none of these should get massive deals. But a few mid size ones would chip away.

Yeah, I didn't read the whole tweet. I have now.

Somewhat related....I think Kmet has done enough in the last several games to warrant an extension at this point. I think he may end up being a really special player for this team once the OLine issues get resolved.

Every week Goatse has a 2nd half stretch where he gets super conservative and the offense grinds to a halt. It's maddening to me. It's almost as if they are doing it on purpose to tank.

People keep joking about this, I assume. But there’s no way a young OC is purposefully tanking his offense. The guy stands to gain a lot by winning with nothing but Fields. The only benefit to losing is the maybe 55% chance they draft a better offensive difference maker to give him more toys. But they may take a defensive player at the top. And the front office already spent an entire draft failing to select an impact player. Why would Getsy play for that long game? It’s much more likely this is in his nature. He started the season with a terrible system and he’s spent most of the time getting bailed out by Fields legs.

We joke about it because the reality that he's just bad at his job is horsefeathering scary.

The play calling was just so drastically different in the 2nd half. They were driving at will in the 1st half, then suddenly in the 2nd half they change things and can't move the ball. If that's not intentional, then I'm very concerned about our OC's ability to help this become a winning team.

I am concerned as well. Thankfully like Poles, Eberflus and Fields he has an offseason to figure it out.

This is really an unfamiliar situation. LOL. If Fields is the real deal (and it looks like he may be), then he makes everyone else's job easier. Obviously, they need to get the talent around him, but that doesn't seem especially difficult now that they have actual draft picks and tons of money. Sure they can still screw it up by spending and drafting wrong, but Fields covers up a lot of that. He covers up bad GM'ing by improving. He covers up bad coaching if he can win in spite of it. He covers up bad playcalling if he can run 50 yards at the drop of a hat.

Obviously, I'm hoping this is a collaborative effort and the GM is decent enough, HC just stays out of way, and OC lets Fields be Fields, but Fields has a chance to make them all look like geniuses if they can just get the rest of the team to a baseline level.
