Whitehair was a borderline disaster snapping. Not a ton of bad snaps per se, but there would be plenty bad ones. But there were also complaints about the way he snaps as well. Can't remember what it quite was, but I know they tried to coach it out of him.

And these were problems when he was in his peak physical condition. He’s now old and worn down and cannot be counted on as this teams starting center.

Grain of salt PFF all you want, but I think everyone agrees the run D was trash last year. Hopefully a big upgrade there. Still a few DL bodies short.

I don't even know who Mark Pennel is and I watched every game last year lol

Wondering if the strategy for spending the money is more about lets get adequate players in the door so we have some baseline depth and then focus on bringing in impact players through the draft. Not having marginal NFL talent in key roles helps bring the floor of the team up without giving out too many outlandish contracts.

Or I'm just talking out of my ass

I only remember him because of a bad pf he committed...and I remember at that time thinking he played for the opposing team when they said his name on the broadcast

Billings is a good add. Probably cheaper than A'Shawn Robinson who I wanted to add. A true 1-tech NT Still need a true 3-tech, but Walker will be there a bunch. An early draft pick and Justin Jones and the DT group is probably bottom 10, maybe bottom half in the league instead of the actual bottom like last year.

it sounds like it. I really like that PFF seems to think that he improved as the season went on, hopefully we got him on a career upswing

Bottom 10 but hopefully improved LB play and likely improved secondary play (with Brisker and Gordon in their 2nd years) to mitigate some of the challenges of having a below average DL unit, maybe? Pretty please?

I don't want Clowney, but I'm cool with those others guys. I'd also throw in Yannick Ngaouke if he hasn't signed anywhere today. He and Ingram are pass rush only guys at this point. Floyd has all around game, but not sure if he'd come back here. Sounded like Poles was done with interior OL based on the press conference today, but I'd cut Whitehair and bring him in without thinking twice. Seumalo has play C before at least in college.

Clowney and Floyd are definitely fun ideas. Too old for Poles to commit but maybe get at a discount for short term? Also like Gesicki.

Can Floyd be a SAM who bumps down to DE on nickel as a rusher? He was never bad in coverage/run when he was here before. He improved his pass rush stats in LA.

I think that ship has sailed. Maybe he could have done that role when he was younger. In fact, that's what he did at Georgia. But nowadays, I think you just put his hand in the dirt and leave him there. He's shown to be good enough at the POA to hold up in the run game, despite being undersized, though he has only (I think) played in 3-4s.

I think poles is like theo Epstein where he is always super willing to walk away if it goes past the hard limit price he has set.

I think in the long run that will serve us well. It's a welcome departure from Pace fixating on guys and paying absurd prices to get them.

I just have some concerns about his positional priorities.

It shouldn't be quite as hard in football as it is in baseball to set markets. It's a capped league with a very narrow pie everything comes from. Like of course identifying the right talent is important, but too much fixation on hard limits is just a lot less meaningful. The market really is whatever the league revenue says it is. Yea there's shifting positional markets, but... I just worry he's just being conservative for the sake of it.

Like last year was a clear tank job. This year the investment levels don't really live up to a team trying to win. Improved of course, but at this point the biggest influence seems to be a cash floor that they have to meet. Really don't want see him be a Ballard who was a slave to his values. He's gotta ramp up his agrrsiveness in FA. It's a meatbally take that FA is bad. Invest in the team!

This is exactly why I wasn't that upset about losing Monty. I liked him, but there are players like Foreman out there. I'm surprised he didn't garner more attention in free agency, he was a big time comeback story last year.

That being said... he doesn't really do much differently as a RB compared to Herbert. That is likely the point though. I was really wanting an excellent pass catcher as an option out of the backfield. I don't know that the Bears bring one in now with Herbert, Foreman, Homer, and Ebner all on the roster at this point.
