this is a BS account sharing random made up crap for engagement

they might have a great analytics department but this guy sure as hell doesn't know

I think an R&D analyst who allows themselves to go on the record like that wouldn't have a job much longer lol.

It sounds like what Jonah Hills character would say in Moneyball. So yea, total "make up what I think analytics dept sounds like" vibes.

I’ve turned to the hoge and jahns podcast to catch up on Chicago sports talk from time to time and it’s weird how much they are lamenting Jack Sanborn’s demotion due to new free agent signings. It’s almost like they are living vicariously through this guy and taking it personally.

I *still" cant tell what percentage of the fan base is memeing and what percent thinks he's actually good.

5 % memeing. I don't think the full remaining 95% think he's like good good. Definitely some variance. But prob like 12-23% think he's next Urlacher or something.

I felt like Sanborn's relative success (he tackled some people) showed more how the LB position can have only a limited effect on success if it isnt approached correctly. The approach to the two new guys is definitely interesting, however

You need either a HOF draft or a huge breakout from Fields as a passer in order to not be a 6-win team rn, imo. It's not a good roster.

And that’s by choice so the people that made the choice should be held accountable.

They have an outside chance of being a dangerous offense with a variety of weapons. It seems like the goal is to overwhelm the opposition with competent skill position guys. You won’t win 12 games that way, but you can compete in every game.

4 top 64 picks should net you 4 starters. It won’t, but it should.

There may be 4 starters, but they may not be 4 good starters. Getting homegrown starters hasn't been the Bears issue. Getting 4 good players out of that will not happen, especially in the 2023 season.

Foreman just seems like a similar back to Herbert. I don't get the move. Good runner but doesn't catch passes or block.

Should be a good short yardage back. Herbert isn't special there. And could carry the load if Herbert is hurt.

It's a very role specific RB room now. That comes with disadvantages, but the roles that are covered are all pretty strong I think. Has it's advantages and disadvantages for sure.

I think they'll be about as even a split as they come in terms of carries, assuming both are healthy. They are almost the exact same type of runner, except Foreman is bigger and breaks more tackles. I think if one wants to get the bulk of the work, he'd better be with a JUGS machine and a blocking sled all offseason.

No idea how this metric is caclutated, but at face value would correlate to about a 6 win expected season based on pythagoream w%. They were 5.2 last year.

Wow. Pretty sad to see the most improvement in the league on paper, and still only a 6-win team. That'd be good for another top 10 pick.

Poles said he basically had deals to go from 1>2>9 and have 3 1s for next year but he felt the sense of urgency from CAR to get it done now and HOU wanted to wait and he was worried the QBs might not show out as expected at their pro days and he felt the deal might have fallen apart between now and then, so he took the sure thing.

Can't be upset with what we got but damn.

I don't blame him for moving when he had the chance. I don't think he was going to end up stuck with the pick, but you never know if the offers would have gotten smaller later. I'm sure its easier for him to move through FA and the rest of the draft process with this out of the way.

I'm really happy to get Moore; that makes the deal for me (not that he wouldn't have been included in another trade). I watched a bunch of his highlight videos and he is pretty good at everything. He can high point it, goes over the middle, breaks tackles like a Deebo lite, has really good speed (not elite but very good - 4.42 40) and is really good with the ball in his hands. Most importantly he both gets open and can make contested catches. Fields should be comfortable chucking it up to him.

Yeah, sounds like Poles believes he could have gotten a 2024 FRP from Houston and potentially some additional picks this year. But I think the package from Carolina lessens a decent amount from 1 to 2. And I'm guessing that meant no DJ Moore or possibly no 2025 2nd round pick. The 49ers gave up 2 future 1sts and a future 3rd to move from 12 to 3. And they may have paid a premium with Miami assuming they'd be a playoff team in 2022 (which that picked turned out to be 28th, no chance Carolina's is that late).

So, even with a similar deal you're looking at:

9th pick, 2023 3rd from Carolina, 2024 1st from Houston, 2024 1st from Carolina, 2025 1st from Carolina

vs

9th pick, 2023 2nd from Carolina, 2024 1st from Carolina, 2025 2nd from Carolina, DJ Moore

Of course, the Houston deal could have included another 2023 pick as well. Obviously, that Houston pick next year looks very enticing, but I think it's a huge assumption they would have given up a future 1st. And if they would have, it wouldn't have been much more than that. So basically, it comes down to DJ Moore and 2025 1st for a 2024 1st and a 2025 2nd + the proverbial "bird in the hand". Houston could have changed their minds. Carolina could have changed there's or the package. It's obviously a fine deal, which I'm sure Bears fans will completely be rational about when reading the article.

Either way, unless something miraculous happens, the Bears are likely to have two top-10 picks next year

It's not going to take a miracle to finish out of the bottom 1/3 FFS

Goes for Carolina as well. They get 14 games vs. their division, AFC South and NFC North. The playoff teams from last year they face have Tua at QB, Geno at QB, or are the 9-8 Jags and a partially torn down Vikings team.

I feel like it will really depend on how big of a jump Fields takes in development, so it's not hard for me to see them on the cusp of a playoff spot

Just gonna go ahead and count on preseason SoS to be bunk. Bears were gonna have any easy schedule in 2022!

(no one @ me with real stats on the matter)

Last season there was only a two-game gap between the bottom 10 and the last wild card team. One game between the bottom 10 and the worst playoff team.

You can be both on the cusp of the playoffs and looking at a bottom 10 pick.

Everyone here except Derwood knows that. That's why what I took issue with was the "unless something miraculous happens" nonsense.
