I really like the way Poles approaches asset management. I like that we went rebuild, I like that he seems to be into accumulating picks, I like that he takes a hard line on age.

I don't like that the end product he's working towards is the cliche Bears football of defense and run blocking, but I like the approach.

On the latter part, I think to the extent he's just following market value, it's a good thing, but also really hard to prove/conceptualize and there's naturally lots.of different of opinion in values.

But there is definitely time for a more solid holistic approach to form as to where he assigns value.

(best analogy I can make, though imperfect, is people taking the Moneyball lesson as "OBP is inherently good" when the actual lesson was "OBP is inherently undervalued". You don't wanna be stuck thinking some new norm is established just to find the thing becoming the norm inherently makes it tougher to compete on that thing because a prices get pushed up.)

OB as RT? Why?

He's a good LT but he's an elite/best in NFL RT.

Based on...?

When he was with Baltimore, his 1st 2 seasons he was a pro bowler at RT which could mask his lack of agility better than at LT.

He was one of the best at RT which suits his strengths better than LT.

Those were also massively different schemes. What specifically says its a side issue verse a scheme issue.

Legitimately want to know because I've seen it talked about a lot that Reid assigns pretty similar L/R schemes and expects them both to be on islands.

Obviously the scheme issue with Outside zone has been mentioned plenty as well. So that factors in. But more and more it seems like the L/R distinction is dying and I'm jot sure it shouldnt be fully brought out backn and killed once and for all.

Outdated thinking. Wirfs, Lane Johnson, Sewell, and Ramczyk are top 10 overall OTs and play right side. Guys like Watt, Nick Bosa, Reddick rush exclusively from the left side of the D.

Draft someone in the middle round that excels at pass blocking and the ability to catch passes and I think the Bears will be fine.

I’m glad I kept Herbert on my fantasy roster as a potential keeper anticipating this.

Bye Monty

Miles Sanders, Austin Ekeler, draft?

Was poised to be fine with it but 3/18 is a steal for Detroit and screw up by bears without a major upgrade

Can’t imagine that was the big pay day he wax hoping for when he decided to test the waters.

My experience with actually playing in sports is being the kid the coach resented being forced to play one full inning in little league and paying $500 every 3 months to play terribel adult recreational hockey, but the idea that the sides on the offensive line are interchangeable seems iffy to me. I'm sure some guys can do it, but I doubt you can just assume any guy can do it. You're doing all the techniques completely the opposite, losing all that muscle memory you've spent years developing.

Yea seems Homer is really just a ST.

So kind of a expensive ST ace, but who's counting with Bears cap space.

Apparently he’s a really strong pass blocker from what I’m reading? Im sure they’ll look for someone in the draft but they might be fine with Herbert and then Homer on some passing downs

Not happy Monty left for that deal, especially within the division. Did we just not want him?

Not sure but the fact that they signed a RB seconds after Monty signed tells me they quickly executed their backup plan

I guess if the WR room is good the bears are legally obligated to have a terrible RB room.

Watching a comedy bang bang episode whilr reading this news and Kyle Mooney is playing Monty the intern who is suffering from injuries sustained in an earthquake and selling overpriced hot dogs and I have to take that as a positive sign

They didn't want him. He didn't fit what they want to do (outside zone runs) hence Herbert got 1.5 yards per carry more than him. This was bound to happen the day Luke Getsy was brought in as OC.

Is there generally a strong enough second wave of cuts that could make sense to be saving money for?

Next big cut wave will be post draft / post June 1. You can get some okay stuff then, but it's not likely deep enough where like every position is gonna have strong options.
