Brewers had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, and 8-9-1 coming up. They didn't score AND burned Freddy Peralta with a pinch hitter. Huge swing for the game there.

Four scoreless innings, 5 Ks. Guess who had over 5.5 strikeouts.

I had Shane McLanahan over 4.5 the other night as part of a parlay. He struck out the side in the first and then no one else after.

And the reliever comes in and goes single, single, homer.

Did Boston just get massively robbed?

great throw by Keirmaier, but he was safe. His hand never comes completely off third, I thought his palm is on it the hole time..

His palm clearly came off, part of the oven mitt may have stayed in contact but not clear at all, call of field stands .

I don't think his hand ever came off the bag (although it is close but it seems his palm is on the bag as it slides across), but I do think he was tagged just a fraction of a second before he got to the bag. I was going frame by frame on my DVR on the replays and it seems to me that when the glove first touches him his hand was a tiny distance from the bag still. It is super close obviously so call on the field stands--but if I had to make a call without the call on the field, I think he was barely out. So I think the ump may have gotten it right for the wrong reason (he made the call based on his thought Verdugo came off the bag).

If you play this to about 15 or 16 seconds or so and then pause it and just move it frame by frame, you can definitely see his butt move because of the glove before the bag moves because of his hand... now his hand may have been in contact with the bag before you see the movement in the bag, but the glove was probably in contact with his body just before you see the movement in his butt. Also the other view at about 7 seconds in is hard to see on this because the video is a bit blurry, but on my TV it also seemed like he may have been tagged just before his hand reached the bag.

With the Rays out, I guess the only thing left to root for is that none of Houston, Milwaukee, WSox or the Dodgers win. Personally I'd rather Atlanta, Boston and Giants not win either, but lesser of evils I suppose.

Yep none of these teams remaining really thrill me. Boston and SF have won 7 of the last 16 world series, and call me a callous jerk but I haven't found enjoyment in watching the Bryants and Schwarbers of the world have postseason success when they should be Cubs. Also Boston annoys me because they are able to rebuild on the fly without having to trade almost every single quality player on their roster like another team I know.

Atlanta just bores me without Ocuna, though would be cool for Freeman to get a title. I don't hate the White Sox but I'd rather not enable their fans to be jackasses. And obviously Houston, Milwaukee and the Dodgers don't need an explanation.

I guess go Braves but with mild enthusiasm at best.

Go White Sox. Most of those guys are fun and maybe it'll put some pressure on the Cubs to actually put out a strong team.

yeah they may be my second choice, but again their fans drive me nuts someitmes. For example the Cusack horsefeathers on twitter the other day (though I recognize that's barstool BS). But I agree they are fun to watch.

I had no particular affinity for the Rays, and their still trying to make Tampa/Montreal ExRays a thing really killed whatever chance there was I was going to root for them.

Unlike UMFan, I'm all in on rooting for guys I watched and loved for years, so if it's SF vs Boston, great. I'm also fine with any of the other remaining teams besides Houston, to be honest. I guess Milwaukee would be 2nd to last on my rooting index, but I'm not passionate about it at all.

If it were just the White Sox players? Yes. But unfortunately they're packaged with their fan base. Therefore, their fans' misery must be greater than or equal to mine. And I'm a Cubs fan, so...

Lol I hate horsefeathers like this. How thin is your skin? Cubs vs Sox isn’t a real rivalry.

I have no issues with the White Sox players, but the fan base is insufferable and for the safety of everyone on the road, I think it's best that we keep La Russa as far away from the celebratory champagne as possible.

I still can't believe in 2021 there's a playoff series being managed between Dusty Baker and Tony La Russa. And both of them are in a competition to sabotage their teams the most.

I'd agree with this if they hadn't made the horrendous TLR decision.

I want the Dodgers to come back in the SF series and win it all if for no other reason than it'd piss off a group of awful** Cubs fans I know. Their only reason for hating the Dodgers is that the Cubs couldn't/didn't do what the Dodgers have done..

**their baseball takes are not what make them awful, to be clear

Read my post again, clown! It's about their fans, not the players!

Eh. I'm in my mid 30s. Most of my friends are Sox fans, but we've gotten past the whole Cubs vs Sox thing. Sucked in 2005, but whatever now. Feels like forever ago, but we're still only 5 years out from winning ours. It'll flip again. La Russa sucks, and he's going to screw up something here at some point (if they make it through today), but there's like 8 dudes on their team that I'd trade anyone on ours for, both talent wise and personality wise.

I agree with this. 2005 was brutal but since we won I really don't care. Their fans get on my nerves and occasionally trigger me but at the same time I kind of like having a little sports excitement in town and as much as it sucks when they clobber us the team is super likable. I have no problem pulling for them among what is a pretty unlikable field of teams.

Yeah you can't criticize/stereotype all Sox fans as caring way too much about the Cubs and then be that upset at them doing well, especially given how unlikeable the Cubs org is at the moment. If I get a month of the city being excited for games, for people getting together to watch them, etc etc etc....better than pretending to like, latch onto the Braves. If it gets to game 7 and LaRussa blows it in some hilarious way? Awesome. But just give me fun baseball with some semblance of meaningfulness for as long as possible.

There are teams I dislike (basically any rival of the Cubs and Bears), fan bases I don't like (White Sox fans, they're insufferable in good times and bad. I live and work among them.) and teams as well as their fans (Cardinals, Brewers, Packers... no explanation necessary). That's just how it works with me.

ETA: This White Sox team... minus Tony LaRussa, really is a good group to watch. A lot more enjoyable than the 2005 version.

Fair, probably depends a lot on the Sox fans you interact with. Most of my Sox fan friends will beat me to making LaRussa jokes. Went to a handful of games at the Cell and saw some Bad Fans, but you also see that at Wrigley (and the UC, and definitely at Soldier). There isn't a 'good' fan base in pretty much all of professional sports.
