I think something like Willy, Happ, Abbot/Swarmer type, and like Zack Short would be close to enough.

Way way too much. Machado got nowhere near that kind of package.

Machado was traded at the deadline and Mookie is fat and away better. I think to get him in the offseason it takes around that.

if he’s so fat at this young of an age I’d rather not give him a big contract

The deadline tends to be inflationary in terms of trade value, and the only player above AA traded for Machado was roster fill Valera. Trading Contreras for Mookie is a complete non-starter, Schwarber basically the same, and Happ almost certainly a bad idea.

Alright great, then send them like Ademan and some prospects we don’t care about then.

The Red Sox want to compete next year despite cutting salary. They're not doing a rebuild like Baltimore and are going to be more interested in MLB/high minors pieces than maybe higher upside but farther away prospects.

Contreras/Schwarber as a main piece for Betts is a good starting point.

A. Who knows what value Contreras really has. Yes he's put up good numbers, but he's also been inconsistent

B. The Red Sox have a catcher who put up good value, albeit defensively.

C. Schwarber may be a better match because of that, but if you feel like his recent success is a break out, and not a fluke, I wouldn't want to move him for a guy who's only under contract for 1 year.

Am I the only one who thinks the Cubs aren't going to make a strong effort to acquire elite talent this offseason?

Now why ever would you think that our ownership group wouldn't try to acquire elite talent when it became available?
