picking a photo where he's hitting a ground ball is just mean, imo

You say that like other pictures exist

Of course it exists. He used to play in Atlanta.

I'm assuming this is misinformation, but can anyone illuminate Heyward's 2020 contract status?

If applicable Heyward can opt in after 2019 with 550 PA in that season.

that should be opt out. For '19 and '20 season his previous no-trade clause is down to 12 teams before going back to full no-trade (due to 10-5 rights) for '21-'23.

(well I'm going by Cot's, needing 550 AB to guarantee the back half would be a gamer changer and seems impossible that that's right)

We’ll always have that walkoff slam against Philly.

Just stop losing balls in the sun this season.

If he has 550 plate appearances next year, he would again have the right to void the deal and become a free agent.

He's going to shock us all by rocking a 1.450 OPS this season, setting the single season record, and then opt out. You know, because he's fixed.

We should add 25 DRS for good measure...

Now when I read this thread title I pretend that its about him getting neutered because hes so bad people are like 'the guy really should not father any more kids' just to eliminate the chance that they grow up and get signed by the Cubs

I 100% believe Heyward is gonna put up a career year this year on a 79 win Cubs disaster season because the Baseball Gods hate us, and it’s the only thing that makes the most sense to happen

I 100 percent don't believe you 100 percent believe that.

I'd celebrate if Heyward can just slug .400.

Thanks to his hot start Heyward now projects to finish this year right around 3 WAR. Him opting out is still a laughable idea at that point (I'd guess that would require a ~5 WAR season), but combined with his contract being down into 8 figures might be enough to make him relatively easy to trade. E.g. we only need to pay down $5mil per year instead of the 10+ it would have taken this past offseason.

That being said I feel like he's started hot every year but 2016, so we have a long ways to go.

April 2018: 247/344/390, 102 wRC (99 wRC for the year)

April 2017: 279/340/407, 98 wRC (88 wRC for the year)

April 2016: 224/333/271, 71 wRC (72 wRC for the year)
