“Bring in a bunch of pitchers and see who sticks” is the plan you talk yourself into when you can’t get good pitchers for whatever reason.

Maybe. But I don't blame them for going this route when I don't think they had a lot to offer other teams in trades without getting into MLB depth. You have 6 starters and like 9 bullpen arms if you include Smyly. Find 12 capable pitchers out of those 15.

hell, might as well go with a 15 man pitching staff.

ha i remember a couple offseasons ago the dodgers were heavily rumored to be after dozier for a long while and then got forsyth as the consolation prize.

Forsyth is one piece going back to the Twins.

Glasnow and Meadows going to Tampa

Interesting trade. Obviously Glasnow has been a disappointment so far but he is still relatively young and his stuff still looks great. Meadows was a top 50 prospect before the year.

Are the Brewers going to do anything at all?

I mean, I guess they added Soria to an already good bullpen. But that team could use a couple more bats and a starting pitcher.

They did add Mike Moustakas.

Meadows and Glassnow feels pretty comparable to something like Happ and Alzolay. Pirates guys with a little more risk/reward. I don't know that I would have paid that for Archer but I don't know that I wouldn't have either.

Yep, that is why I said that

The problem is you have to give innings to bad ones to find out which ones are hot, so you don’t end up ahead.

If this is the price for a WS followed by some pitching bets blowing up, so be it. But it sucks today.

We've already given about 100 innings to Rosario/Duensing/Butler/Farrell/Hancock, all of which are pretty objectively bad. If one of these new guys shows he can be reliable in October, awesome. If not, well, we probably still need people to throw those innings anyways to keep our actual good relievers fresh/healthy, and we basically gave up nothing to get them.

Supposedly they are close to getting Schoop from the Orioles.

Neil Huntington is my favorite of all the hedge fund GMs. I don't like Archer much as a trade target anymore(certainly not with Happ involved), but getting him out of the AL East and into PNC National Forest will help, and I don't think he was gonna do much better for a couple toolboxes like Glasnow and Meadows who will start deteriorating in value every day they continue to fail in MLB.

I agree I like the move a lot for them, I had little interest in Archer for us and the Pirates didn’t give up much here. Now go beat out the VBs for one of the WC spots and keep them out of the playoffs.

Dodgers getting Axford. Say what you want about the Dodgers but they....certainly make a lot of transactions every deadline.

It's a little early for them, It seems like their deals always come out like 5 minutes after the deadline has passed.

Report is Harvey's staying put, so unless Theo had another late ninja move, this is our team.

Probably nothing else major, but a waiver deadline deal or two wouldn't surprise me.

A depth outfielder and a third catcher seems to have been the Theo/Hoyer pattern for waiver deadline deals.
