Seems crazy that the Cardinals wouldn't trade at least Bud Norris too. Probably one of their square-peg/round-hole position players as well (Jose Martinez).

Yeah they should’ve traded, Mikolas, Norris, Martinez, maybe even Carpenter

Done according to MLB.com

We discussed him in December. Is he signed through next year?

I....don't understand what the Pirates are doing.

They're only 3.5 games out of the wild card game.

And Archer is an asset beyond this year.

Yeah but they'd have to jump 3 teams to make it. I dunno maybe they just see the NL as wide open with the Nationals down, Phils and Braves still incomplete, the Cubs starting pitching woes and the Dodgers early season stumble. Guess we will see how much they had to give up.

Archer and Kela are both under control for a couple of years, if players are available that you like and you hope to compete next year why not add now?

I don't like the 3pm trade deadline.

Make it 7pm or something so I can obsessively watch twitter after I get home from work. I'm barely keeping up as is.

I just expected more of a rebuild after trading McCutchen and Cole. I expect Archer's price to be high, possibly more than what they got back for Cole. Do the Pirates really think they are close to being a contender this year or next? I guess I haven't been paying that much attention to them.

ha i remember a couple offseasons ago the dodgers were heavily rumored to be after dozier for a long while and then got forsyth as the consolation prize.

“Bring in a bunch of pitchers and see who sticks” is the plan you talk yourself into when you can’t get good pitchers for whatever reason.

Maybe. But I don't blame them for going this route when I don't think they had a lot to offer other teams in trades without getting into MLB depth. You have 6 starters and like 9 bullpen arms if you include Smyly. Find 12 capable pitchers out of those 15.

The problem is you have to give innings to bad ones to find out which ones are hot, so you don’t end up ahead.

If this is the price for a WS followed by some pitching bets blowing up, so be it. But it sucks today.
