Man this sucks. Brings back painful memories -- some close family friends perished in a plane crash a while back. The dad was a super rich doctor and took his whole family on a flight. I still don't know the details of the plane crash or how good a pilot he was. I always dread reading about these kind of stories now.

I will never fly in a small commercial airplane/jet because of that incident...

This is terrible. He was so good that I still remember Sergio Mitre beating him in a random game in like 2005 or something because it was one of the most stunning regular-season results ever to me.

RIP

Oh man, looking through his Twitter page, he just got that plane like 3 weeks ago and pretty much all of his recent tweets are about how much he loves flying and loves the plane etc.

:-(

He was/is likely a Hall of Famer

200+ wins, career 3.38 ERA, 2 Cy Youngs, 2 second place Cy Young finishes, and 3 other top 5 finishes.

Also one of only two players in history to throw a no-hitter in the postseason.

Did this happen to involve a grandfather flying his grandchildren in the Midwest?

No, it didn't involve a grandfather. It did happen in the Midwest over 10 years ago. The father and pilot was a neurosurgeon. He wanted to get a pilot's license and bought a small plane. It was tragic and heartbreaking and I'm still upset about the whole ordeal.

RIP R. Halladay

RIP Roy Halladay but damn I feel awful for his family. His wife really fought against him getting his pilots license and her worst fears were confirmed in less than a month after buying the aircraft.

Just so terrible.
