If Quinatana is a #3 on a good team, then Jon Lester did a hell of a job willing us to a World Series championship as a #3.

If you think we just traded for prime Jon Lester you are sadly mistaken

Over the past three years, Quintana and Lester have basically been the same guy. Lester has gotten a few more strikeouts, but he’s also been in the National League, and Quintana has suppressed more home runs. By value, they’ve been virtually identical, and while Lester was born in 1984, Quintana was born in 1989. It stands to reason Quintana might have more left in the tank.

I think I would have traded Almora/Candelario/Cease for a different guy. Agh

Which guy?

Scott Feldman.

In that case, I'm with wallet. Been regretting letting him get away for years.

Lester is also 6.5 years older. Compare his 2009-2011 stats with Quintana

I really can't see how anyone doesn't love this. Sets us up so well heading into the offseason. My guess is we'll probably buy a high end guy, instead of trading for another one.

The deadline probably turns into us looking for a C, maybe a CF, maybe a LHRP.

The true question I've got, is who falls out of the rotation? You've got Lester, Quintana, Arrieta, Hendricks.....Butler falls out.

But, its going to be fucked up if Lackey is the 5th and not Montgomery......

Just keep Lackey on the DL for a while. Or use a 6 man, because I doubt they'll take him out of the rotation.

Lester was better the last 3 years than he was in 2009-2011.

Lester won a World series for the Cubs in 2009-11?

Damn that makes last year much more anticlimatic.

Seems like a good trade. I'll like it more after this season when we get the garbage out of our rotation and sign another TOR pitcher.

Holy horsefeathers check out this take from a Brewers forum, lol

"I like this trade for the Brewers, but not really because of how it affects us this year. For this year, the only difference is that the Cubs now have one more incredibly tough pitcher that we have to face, which is obviously bad for us.

However, by gutting the top end of their farm system, this puts the Cubs into a pretty limited competitive window, rather than Stearns' approach of trying to make sure we consistently have talent coming up from the minors. Hopefully this will coincide with the Brewers rebuild just hitting its stride, and we'll have an opening to dominate the NL Central for years while the Cubs go through another rebuild."

More good stuff and by good I mean some of the dumbest stuff I've seen lately here.......

Wait until everyone realizes Paredes is better than both Gleyber and Jimenez. Throw in someone being a somebody between Albertos/Lange/Marquez plus the usual role player supply and we goooood, chillin' n horsefeathers.

Ha! One of those jokers referred to this as a desperation move!

Hold a raffle for what fan gets to tell Lackey he's released.

I said we aren't getting PRIME Jon Lester. His WAR was hovering around 6 in his prime years, which Quintana (currently at a 2 WAR) is in now

Look at it this way, if we were sellers...Do you think we get an as good of package for Jon Lester on the market?

The one that is better than Jose Quintana, even though he has thrown 1,000 more innings. Not really a validation of your guys' Quintana is an ace argument

ole' jonny is owed nearly three times as much per year for 4 years instead of 3. The Cubs traded for a great contract situation nearly as much as the player.
