I like the concept of the deal but not sure I like the amount given up. Now somebody tell me why Quintana has been bad this year and how we're going to fix him.

I DO love though that we have Quintana through 2020, and the secondary pieces in the deal are basically roster filler. So we can still trade Jeimer and Zagunis and Almora/Happ for another piece before the deadline.

What does this make our top 10 look like now?

Quintana has better peripherals than his performance this year, and a big chunk of his struggles are from a slow start(maybe the WBC impacted how he prepped?), and everything I said about Fulmer applies equally to Quintana. AL to NL, crap framing catchers to above average, and better defense(Sox are better than the Tigers here so the impact is smaller).

Jump in K rate and walk rate, both career highs, and a weird uptick in HR/FB with no corresponding change in batted ball profile (also has doubled his infield fly ball rate).

The walk rate is concerning, but he's proven he can be a top 10 pitcher with a 7-8 K/9, and he's at 9.4/9 now. Focus on the strike zone a little more against weaker hitters with a better defense, hope the HR rate drops back down to his norms, and he should be just fine.

This is my scare of this trade. That and the loss of dongs.

He's been much better recently. 2.70 ERA since the start of June.

I've already worked it out in my head that Eloy is an A ball COF struggling to hit for average in High A despite hitting more groundballs this year. Cease is way easier since the arm surgery ruined him for me.

I'm really wishing I had verbalized that I was starting to worry about Eloy's lack of average. That hit tool was supposed to be the thing that made him more Miggy than Soler, but I promise this isn't hindsight. Also the repeated injuries on a big dude aren't great harbingers. Still pains me to lose him, but at least it's for a target I love.

Exact boat I'm in. I think they may have traded him at peak value.

Hated it until I saw 3 more years of control. Can someone confirm?

Jimenez and Cease, would have preferred not giving up both but as others have said, neither in AA yet, so a lot can change.

Either way, the Sox have a serious farm.

So uhhhmmm... Lackey gets the boot now right?

We should throw a Toby Flenderson-like going away party for him.
