I'm not overly excited to sign a pitcher that wasn't healthy enough to stick for the Dodgers.

Well, they do have like 14 other starting pitcher options and about half are injury risks, so it's not a huge surprise

what a strange click bait-ey tweet

that's dumb. if the cubs' biggest weakness going into next season is a lack of trevor cahills and adam warrens, i think they'll be ok.

yeah, i mean, the team they project to 99 wins is vulnerable in the sense that any team is vulnerable if enough bad horsefeathers happens...but that's about as close to invulnerable as you get.

That's 7 starters, which can go up to 8 if we work out a small trade for Caleb Smith. If we can bring back Wood, I'd feel pretty comfortable with our depth, particularly given what appears to be our strong bullpen.

I really wish we could be guaranteed even 100 innings out of him, I'd be a lot more excited.

But then would we be getting him at the cost of a utility player?

I'm excited because the upside is that of a legit starter. The downside is the price of a scrub.

It's almost as if pitcher health is a skill.

I've been wondering about this. If the Cubs get another healthy year out of their rotation again this season, it will be hard to chalk it up to luck. Is coaching, scouting and training staff/philosophy on causing long-term pitching health the latest market inefficiency?

Let's see how this year goes...

*2015 Cubs have 4 starters with 31+ starts*

well the Cubs got lucky with pitcher health, let's see what happens when

*2016 Cubs have 5 pitchers with 29+ starts*

okay that's lucky too and if they get hit with injuries then they'll feel the pain

Jeff Sullivan[/url]"]Even now, if you took away Lester and Arrieta and replaced them with 0 WAR, the Cubs would be Steamer-projected for a team WAR of 43.6. That would rank them between the Astros and the Giants

I forget the rules; if we give the Yankees some compensation, Smith can start the season in the Cubs' minor league system? That seems too easy..

We basically have to trade for Smith to be able to option him. The cost isn't likely to be high, but there's no formal mechanism that the Yankees are powerless against, so if they love Smith they don't have to agree to it and could wait for the Cubs to return him.

I just realized that every time I see a new post in this thread I'm going to assume he's hurt.

He's never missed a game as a Chicago Cub, so why the pessimism?

It's equally likely that he is already hurt and is "scheduled to start throwing off flat ground again."

I'm not gonna get worried until I hear the words "towel drill".

I dont think Bosio is in to towel drills. That was Larry Rothschild's thing.

Im pretty sure it was a Tom House (who was basically Mark Prior's pitching guru) thing.
