I think i have to say game 6 nlcs was my best game ever attended even though i was at ws game 5.

 

ws game 5 revived hope and was insanely intense. nlcs game 6 was a long party.

I'm a little jealous of you rich bastards that live near Chicago and can go to these playoff games, but then again, I did get the Soriano walk-off slam in 09 and last year's Brian Matusz/Travis Wood in LF/Jon Lester walk-off bunt game, so I've had it pretty good too.

I did at least get to go to the Javy HR game in the NLDS so I was there for a very small part of the playoff run.

I live in St. Louis and had to pull a lot of strings to make it up for the weekend they were in Chicago for the WS. I'm jealous of those that can go to games on the regular.

#33: Cubs Continue to Have Fun on Defense

 

 

Why on the list? - Even the announcers didn't really notice this, but during the game 6 mastery, the right side of the Cubs' infield continued to have a blast in the field, having fun with popups here as first Baez calls of Rizzo on a ball right at Rizzo, then later Rizzo waving off Baez (who was about 100 feet away at the time) on another popup in about the same location. The guys were having fun while the Dodgers looked inept and helpless.

Yeah, Javy's awesome, Rizzo's reaction is awesome, it was an easy play, proved how loose the the Cubs were feeling and playing, etc.

 

However, not to sound like a party pooper, but it was a series clinching game 6 of the NLCS. The biggest game the Cubs had played in since game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. There's a time and a place and that might not be the best time or place for screwing around. You could tell from Buck and Smoltz's reactions they were a bit underwhelmed with Javy's I guess you can call it "showboating".

 

I've got a hunch somebody in the dugout, maybe even Rizzo himself, told Javy to chill out a bit on that kind of stuff. Maybe nobody said anything and they just let Javy be Javy, which could be the case too.

If you would have asked me how many hits the Dodgers had through 7 innings in game 6, 1 hit would have been like my 10th guess. Christ, Kyle Hendricks is such a horsefeathering boss.

However, not to sound like a party pooper, but it was a series clinching game 6 of the NLCS. The biggest game the Cubs had played in since game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. There's a time and a place and that might not be the best time or place for screwing around. Being loose and having fun during a series clinching game is not a negative, just for information. Rizzo did no such thing because he was having fun with it too. You completely missed the point of the moment.

The sole hit Hendricks gave up was a rocket single to right on the very first pitch of the game causing a bit of uneasiness in the hearts and minds of Cub fans, then on the very next pitch Javy came up with that incredible double play by charging the grounder and tagging out the runner as he fired to first. That seemed to calm people down in a hurry, Hendricks was unhittable after the first pitch.

 

Hendricks performance in game 6 of the NLCS reminded me a lot of Jake's performance in the play-in game against Pittsburgh in 2015.

I didn't miss the point. I get it, the Cubs were loose and having fun during a pressure packed game. All I said was there are probably better ways to show how loose and how much fun they were having.

#32: Rizzo Keeps it Rolling Early

 

 

Why on the list? - Though the Cubs had just rolled in Game 4 after Rizzo finally got things going offensively, the series was still tied here going into game 5 in LA. In a huge game, the Cubs got the offense rolling immeidately as Rizzo doubled home Fowler in the first inning for his fourth consecutive hit, as the Cubs would never trail again in the series.

Not to bring it up again but while watching game 7 at home, I almost puked up my Italian Beef and copious amounts of beer after the Raji Davis HR.

 

I haven't been to too many memorable Cubs games, both playoff games I went to (Dodgers in 08, Dodgers in 16) were duds, I guess the Aramis HR vs the Phillies to complete the comeback in 2008. A bunch of random games from the early 80s to now.

I was a nervous wreck before going to game 5 of the WS, and my wife was in worse shape. I have a horrible record of watching the Cubs live. They have lost about 80% of the games I have been to. After that beating in game 4, I was faced with the Cubs possibly losing the Series in the game I went to. :barf: I kept telling myself that even if they lost the Series that game, I was going to get to see the Cubs play in the World Series.

I also was at the walkoff slam. Landed just to my right.

 

Oh, and I live in Kansas City, which means I made 4 trips to Chicago in 5 weeks (parade). But I've planned for that month my whole life...

 

Also means I was at the 2014 Wild Card game, the first time the Royals won the pennant and Game 6 of the 2014 World Series.

My daughter (10 months at the time) horsefeathering vomited all over me in Game 7. Of course we were leading at the time. I mean she horsefeathering soaked me. I had to just jump in the shower with her to clean us both off and I was thinking "is this vomit a bad omen?" Then Davis hit that homer and I was like I have to take this baby back to the store or wherever my wife bought her

That run was so damn magical I am still trying to fathom how regular season baseball will feel and if we do it again this year....will it feel close to the same

#31: Bryant Starts the Scoring Early in Game 1

 

 

Why on the list? - In the NLDS, Game 1 was a tense, low-scoring affair with no scoring until the 8th. Bryant made sure the NLCS didn't start the same way, doubling immediately in the 1st inning to score Fowler and get the crowd rolling early. It wasn't a HR, but it was hit in a good spot..towards the Dodgers defense.

This season, I attended the game either before or after 1) Jake Arrieta's no hitter and 2) Kris Bryant's 5-5 game with 3 HR and 2 doubles. Also in the past, I've just missed Kyle Farnsworth destroying Paul Wilson, Starlin Castro's debut, and even the game where the Peoria Chiefs faced the Dayton Dragons, and a huge brawl occurred that lead to the arrest of a Cubs prospect because he threw a ball into the crowd that hit some lady in the head.

 

I'd guess the coolest moment I saw in person was Sosa's first game back from the corked bat suspension, where he hit a home run.

Man that's basically like the entire list of interesting Cubs games in Cincinnati. I guess the only 2 other games I can think of are The Shawn Estes Game in 2003 and the day the Cubs clinched the division in 2007 (although it didnt happen until milwaukee lost after the game)

I definitely slumped in my seat after Davis hit the homer, but felt pretty good after we got out of it still tied (until the bottom of the 9th, when Joe sent Chapman back out and it turned into a roller coaster ride).

 

I would say, and I'm sure others here felt the same, that I felt really good about things coming out of the rain delay.
