I apologize if this has been mentioned but if the Cubs have been rumored on value players like Ross, I hope they look at Rubby de la Rosa. His fastball, slider, and inconsistency is similar to Arrieta. No guarantees obviously but I 've been enamored with his stuff.

He's definitely been mentioned and for good reason, but for me I don't know that I'd even bother trying to make him a starter anymore. I throw him in the pen and try and turn him into a closer.

I know that's where he is projected by Streamer and other projections but either way as a project for Bosio and more conclusive results on his Stem Cell therapy, I would let the health of his elbow dictate that.

I do want them to go to a 6 man rotation given the wear last year, Arrieta's effectiveness on extended rest, and the fact they should get into the postseason with a 5 or 10 man rotation and keep them fresh for October.

There was some talk about that with Arrieta too. I'm glad they gave him a few more months to prove what he could do.

Japanese infielder, Munenori Kawasaki, 35, announced today that he is now close to re-signing with the Chicago Cubs this off-season, as both sides are nearing an agreement. According to the report, Kawasaki will be signing on a minor league deal, with an invite to spring training in Arizona…

I'm honestly pretty excited about bringing him back :D . I know he didn't contribute much on the field, but he seemed like a great teammate that keeps everyone loose/makes them laugh (in a good way). I was worried we were going to lose him since we would only be offering him a minor league deal/spring training invite.

Kawasaki seems like a great guy. I didn't used to be so big on team chemistry, but that D. Ross signing and the overall effect it had on this team has won me over.

Joel Sherman on the Cubs' pursuit of Tyson Ross:

http://nypost.com/2017/01/05/cubs-shopping-with-audacious-6-man-rotation-in-mind/

He says the Cubs could re-sign Wood if they miss out on Ross, but it sounds more like him guessing than any new reports.

MLBTR also throws out a few (gross) names

If Chicago wants to look elsewhere for someone to fill that role, there are a number of options remaining on the market with recent starting and relief experience. Yusmeiro Petit, old friend Scott Feldman, Vance Worley, Dillon Gee and Jorge De La Rosa are just a few low-cost options that could potentially fit the bill.

I don't want Feldman, but the idea of having Scott Feldman, and possibly bouncing San Francisco out of the playoffs again, while poor Samardzija watches is on is highly amusing.

Ross wasn't so much signed for chemistry as he was a personal muse to Lester. That and everyone needs a backup catcher, few of which are going to be able to hit their way out of a wet paper bag. Kawasaki's a mascot and to grant the media their 'look, the Chinaman (yes, I know) thinks he's people' interviews.

In the alternate universe where samardzija isn't a jerk, we never trade Castro, never get Russell and never sign Lackey. We still win the World Series.

I don't suppose that Jerrod Parker and/or Ross Detwiler stand a snowball's chance in hell of being Bosio'd, do they?

i dont think parker even has two working arms anymore.

Okay ... I haven't checked this thread out in awhile ... but explain that last part to me? Kawasaki was signed to be a mascot and to grant the media their ... "Chinaman" (I mean, in this day and age, most baseball media would be more surprised with a Chinese baseball player, there's Taiwanese, Japanese, and Korean, but off the top, no "Chinaman", but that's almost a political issue, so forget it) fetish (fetish isn't even the right word, but I'm not sure what to make of "look, the Chinaman thinks he's people" considering that Asian Americans have been in baseball for long enough now?)

Perhaps I'm missing some sort of joke in there that I'm not aware of, as I've never really followed individual poster's and their habits, but I'd argue that Kawasaki has a career because he's a capable defensive sub, and that the Cubs could use someone like that to call up in a pinch.

The Cubs have signed catcher Carlos Corporan and re-signed infielder Munenori Kawasaki to minor league contracts. Corporan spent several years as a backup in Houston and last appeared in the Majors in 2015 with Texas; he hit .197/.246/.333 at two Triple-A stops in 2016. The 35-year-old Kawasaki played briefly for the Cubs last season and spent most of the year playing shortstop with Triple-A Iowa, where he batted .255/.352/.312. The popular former Blue Jays infielder has now appeared in parts of five seasons in the big leagues, as well as 11 in Japan.

Forget it, man...it's Little Slide Rooter-town.

that sentence is an embarrassment.

Stuff floating around Twitter that Tyson Ross has agreed with the Rangers.

Apparently he does not like winning the World Series
