What the hell is the point of coming here to post doom and gloom? We have the best team in baseball -- it may not matter given playoff variance, but it's also ridiculous to act like we aren't capable of winning against the Dodgers.

Statistically we are unlikely to win right now but if we win today the ball is back in our court I feel

I agree with a few other posters that this is where Lackey earns his paycheck. My unlikely star with the bat for tonight is Heyward. It may have to wait until the starter gets pulled if Maddon decides to go with Soler again tonight, but we are winning this game.

It's going to be hot as blazes for these next two games. Also, no marine layer, so the ball will travel well. Keep the ball down, Lackey!

So over my six years as an advisor here at East Carolina I can't ever recall a student wearing a cubs hat to their appointment. This morning I had two girls wear a cubs hat and both said they didn't realize I was a cubs fan. Which is odd since my walls are littered with Cubs stuff. Anyway, I think it's a sign - we got this one.

It's amazing how quickly things can change. We were all feeling so good after game 1 and then even though we knew chances were high Kershaw would shut us down in game 2, it was demoralizing when it happened. The only "surprise" was last night... scoring 0 runs off Rich Hill. I have faith that this team will re-capture their magic and respond positively. Just too many good vibes for it to end like last year.

So I have been a Cubs fan since 1984 ..Here is how my yesterday started....go to the garage there is a mouse on top of my car, try to start my car it wont turn over, call USAA they come out and it wont jump start either so it gets towed, spend half the day at a mechanic only to learn the batter was leaking acid. Just had my oil changed last Wed at the dealership you think they could have given me a heads up. Middle of the day my border collies back legs stop working. He sleeps so do the Cubs bats. Take the dog to the vet and they say he also has a heart and circulation issue. I have to put him down and I am pretty much crushed. Cubs bats are also put to sleep but I dont really care about that right now....Today CANNOT be worse than yesterday. CANNOT

I'm generally not at all superstitious. But if I was, I wouldn't be antagonizing the spirit of the goat, I'd be embracing it. I'd also recommend that every active poster here were to change their avatar to a billy goat. I have a good feeling about it. Just do it.

Hell with it, I'm playing the nachos card. Because nachos sound delicious right now.

So sorry, man. That's rough.

And I don't. But if there were such a thing, this would be the time to embrace these glorious, majestic creatures.

Seriously though, that would be nice for any Cub to be a star with the bat tonight, especially for Heyward.

:( Sorry about your loss.

Let's turn things around, Cubs.

Wow. That's an awfully rough day. Condolences dude.

I'll piggyback on that and choose to be optimistic that the Cubs have bottomed out. Just about the only way the Cub offense could go worse at this point would be to have a perfect game pitched against 'em. Always possible, and the past 2 games and paper match-ups may make that result seem inevitable right now, but I've watched enough baseball to expect the scoreless streak doesn't reach 27 innings and a top tier offense won't post a sub-500 OPS for a series. If those do happen, meh, that's playoff baseball variance for ya.

To better days ahead! Go Cubs!

Speaking of silly superstitions, whatever happened to the fail-safe NSBB game-thread guru? Don't recall his name, but he didn't post much, other than starting the occ. game thread when we really needed a win? Because this would be a good time for him to resurface.
