I like how he was "shocked" that Maddon was pulling him after he walked two guys in a row without really being anywhere near the plate with a lot of those pitches.

Watched the game with my wife and son and as Joe walked up and the camera zoomed in on Lackey, she turned to me and said "what did he say?" I looked at my kid, who was giggling to himself, and said "he asked 'are you kidding me?' with an extra word in there." FS1 made it pretty easy to read his lips.

Of course, my wife also said "wow he has like perfect teeth. Really big. But otherwise, they're perfect." She didn't understand why I thought that was so funny.

I think it's just that starters think they should be able to go as long as they would in a regular season game...they have confidence in themselves to work out of their own jams. It's kinda understandable really.

Oh yeah. I totally agree that it was understandable. But he also should know that the one thing he could not do last night in his outing was to walk the first two guys in an inning. Pitch underhand and let them crush one over the fence. Sure. Putting guys on base without taking the bat off their shoulder? NO!

I think the bigger issues were: it was 8/9, so he was coming around to the top of the order for the 3rd time, and as you mentioned earlier, he wasn't particularly close with some of those misses.

Joe really didn't want to have to take him out. He wanted 2 IP out of Montgomery and he didn't want him to hit. It was lined up perfectly if Lackey gets through 8/9/1 in order. But there's no way Lackey was facing Utley, Seager, Turner and Gonzalez with 2 guys on when a LHP was ready.

I'm still not looking forward to facing Kershaw and Hill again. Winning tonight is not literally mandatory, but as close as it practically gets.

Yeah, I'm a little glad I can't watch today, the stakes are similarly high and last night I would've been a wreck in a tight game. Needing to only beat one of Kershaw/Hill at home is so much easier to manage than beating them consecutively.

I was a mess before the breakout inning. One Gonzalez was called out I calmed a bit. Felt the breaks were gonna go our way.

Once Russell hit his first flyout I felt better. He just missed it, and that may have been the hardest hit ball of his bat UP to that point. I didn't think there was anyway Howard wouldn't through out the mule named Gonzalez.

Not me. The Cubs had like 3 warning track flyouts in game 3...that just seemed like another one to add to the list.

Kind of crazy to think that he was actually pretty close to a 3 HR game. Both of his outs in the game were hit to the track.

i liked when rizzo took that foul deep then hit a HR, then zobrist came up and almost did the exact same thing (at least, that's how i remember it, but i was a few beers deep)

Why are the Dodgers still whining about one play in a game they lost by 8?

Also, I looked at the video and watched it frame-by-frame. There is a good view that can be found in this clip, starting at about 20 seconds: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/63817564/v1207933883/nlcs-gm4-heyward-nabs-agon-on-close-play-at-home/?team_id=112

You can clearly see that his palm hit the dirt first, and then his fingers went down. His palm is down in the dirt well before the plate. But his fingers are clearly still in the air. You can even see the shadow of his fingers, directly below the fingers, in the dirt. And when his hand gets to the plate, you can see the shadow from his fingers drift over the plate. He's not touching the plate when his hand is first over it. I took a freeze-frame shot that appears to be really close to where Gonzalez's screen shot is at.

You can still see space between his fingers and the plate. And you can see the shadow on the plate. The first frame where I can no longer see space between his fingers and the plate, the tag is already on. He's out. And even if he beat it by a split second, it was bang-bang. Too close to call. Stick with the call on the field. Still out. There shouldn't be any controversy here.

I like our chances of splitting with them at Wrigley a lot. Which is why winning may not be literally mandatory, but it's pretty damn close.

In that view, it almost appears the palm of Contreras glove is touching Gonzalez on the sleeve.
