I am too obsessed with this team. After the Miggy grand slam on Sunday, I was 100% convinced that we would win the series in LA and there was no way we were going to be denied because no matter what things would just work out like they have all year.

Now 2 games later, I am having trouble imagining the Cubs ever scoring a run again and as much as I try to push it out of my head it feels like previous playoff fades.

I will say though that this team is different. If any team in Cubs history can handle the adversity and turn things around its this team. I know because they've already done it multiple times this postseason.

This is easily the most uneasy I've been going into a game this season; they just looked SO bad last night. Game 2 you can chalk up to a combination of a whole lotta Kershaw getting his horsefeathers together and a little bit of bad luck, but last night just seem to really drive home just how poorly so much of the lineup is doing, even by the small sample size standards of the playoffs. Hill seemed like a jumpy, jittery wreck for the first 3 innings or so last night and his pitching reflected that, and they couldn't do anything with it. It still blows my mind a little that after how bad Hill looked in the 2nd inning the Cubs still got shut out and barely even got anyone on base after that. As much as this bugs us, this has to weigh infinitely more on the players' minds, and I can't help but worry they're just going to keep pressing and not-hit themselves out of a still very winnable series.

yup. someone needs to wake up that locker room, they just look like they are sleep walking right now.

The time has come for a grown man to yell at a locker room full of other grown men.

I'm thinking more in the line of hitting a home run

So I have been a Cubs fan since 1984 ..Here is how my yesterday started....go to the garage there is a mouse on top of my car, try to start my car it wont turn over, call USAA they come out and it wont jump start either so it gets towed, spend half the day at a mechanic only to learn the batter was leaking acid. Just had my oil changed last Wed at the dealership you think they could have given me a heads up. Middle of the day my border collies back legs stop working. He sleeps so do the Cubs bats. Take the dog to the vet and they say he also has a heart and circulation issue. I have to put him down and I am pretty much crushed. Cubs bats are also put to sleep but I dont really care about that right now....Today CANNOT be worse than yesterday. CANNOT

Sorry about your dog, man. I don't think I could've even brought myself to watch the game last night if I were you. I hope the Cubs can help cheer you up a little bit tonight.

the good news is, I think I'm approaching stage 5 of the Kubler-Ross model

Wouldn't hurt if the guys did the same, at this point. At least they'd stop pressing.

What the hell is with this gigantic doom-boner of a thread pregame?

WHERE ARE THE GIFS AND THE SIMPSONS QUOTES?

WHERE ARE THE NACHOS AND THE LOVE FOR OUR TEAM, THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL?

We weren't gonna win every horsefeathering game, do you not realize that the best team wins only like 55%-66% of the time? Its a crapshoot you ninnies, go be closet crazy curse-calling Cubs fans by yourself, this is a place for wanting and expecting the Cubs to win.

Sweet horsefeathering christ I hope I get a chance to start a thread this postseason. I'm third down the line, so only way I get in is if we're in the World Series.

That having been said,

PUT SOME [expletive] EFFORT INTO STARTING YOUR THREAD THOUGH PEOPLE.

What are we, getting ready for spring training to start? This is the best Cubs team anyone alive has ever seen, and they're 3 WINS FROM THE WORLD SERIES. How are we not thrilled to be here, regardless of a couple of tough days against two outstanding pitchers?

I want pictures and and stats and predictions and good vibes from these threads, at least from the game thread starters for shits sake.

The Cubs are struggling on offense right now, but it's exhilarating to have the chance to watch them turn it around tonight, TO TIE UP THE NLCS, in case any of you freakin schmucks forgot that it takes 4 losses to lose the series, not 2. Who in their right horsefeathering mind thinks that simply because a pitcher throws a curveball, he has the golden ticket to automatically shutting down our offense? What the horsefeathers is that? You think our whole entire lineup is named Pedro Cerrano?

Go Cubs, just relax and go have fun. Play your game, it's what got you this far.

Edit: horsefeathers, really sorry about your dog gobigred. more impactful than anything that happens on a baseball field I'm sure.

Speaking of silly superstitions, whatever happened to the fail-safe NSBB game-thread guru? Don't recall his name, but he didn't post much, other than starting the occ. game thread when we really needed a win? Because this would be a good time for him to resurface.

Butters?

BHogg- that was his name. Where is he? Make him start a game thread by any means necessary!

I've come to realize that we lost the last 2 games because Fred wasn't here to tell us the Cubs record when they've scored 0 runs (horsefeathers you cancer). So I'll fix that little jinx.

The Cubs are 0 and X when scoring 0 runs (where X represents the number of times we've scored 0 runs in a game).

GO CUBS

This post-season, the Cubs are 3-0 when David Ross starts. 1-3 when he has not.

I can't get past the lathered on british accent saying jaguar like "jaggy-wa" in any of their commercials. Tossing in stephen hawking and spinning a camera around him like he's a badass is just an odd marketing decision. Like the guy is pretty remarkable, but not exactly the spitting image of elegant badassery that they're trying to sell you on with their cars.

Basically let's stop wondering who the unlikely hitter will be and start wondering who the likely hitter is who will start hitting, because it's basically Baez and Bryant and nobody else.

Contreras. He's quietly seething on the bench while everyone else is sleepwalking. He'll spark tonight's win.

When the Cubs win tonight, I would assume Roberts will go to Kershaw in game 5?

I hope so. If (and it is a BIG "if") the Cubs can find a way to beat Kershaw in that scenario, that would be a huge blow to the Dodgers coming back to Chicago. And even if the Dodgers win with Kershaw in Game 5, the Cubs still aren't in terrible shape with Hendricks and Arrieta lined up for 2 must-win games at home. Of course, it all starts with winning tonight.

I can really see Contreras being the spark plug kind of guy. If you watched the ALCS game yesterday, Encarnacion hit a two run single at one point and pretty much pounded his chest and pointed at the dugout yelling to fire up his team the whole time he ran down to first base.

Contreras is the type to do that I think.

so, how good is this 20 year old Uria? will we actually hit against him?

He began the season as a top 5 prospect in all of baseball but has only made 22 career minor league starts above A ball. He's had some hiccups and in other games he's been dominant. Because of his age and lack of innings, they are being extremely careful with him and I don't expect him to go more than 4-5 innings even if he's pitching well.
