Heyward has no business in the starting lineup vs a lefty. A late inning sub if we are up, sure. The 7-8-9 are automatic outs right now.

He's 2 for 3 with a HR against Urias. Ride the defense this time and see if he can have similar success at the plate.

Surely that is statistically significant.

It is when you understand exactly how rare it is for Heyward to homer.

i genuinely like sticking with the regular lineup here

Yep, with a lefty starter you're going out of your way to get Almora and/or Ross in the lineup if you deviate. Ross had a good year against lefties, but probably not so good to jump through hoops to get rid of Heyward or Russell's glove(and the latter's offensive potential).

Also Urias will be done by the 5th anyway so you want as neutral a lineup as you can get.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA YEAH RIGHT

Urias recorded an out in the 6th inning in 5 of his 15 starts. He failed to finish the 5th in 6 of 15 starts. He hasn't thrown 4 innings or 80 pitches in an outing in a month and a half. In his professional career he has not taken the mound in the 7th inning of a start. He's been handled so carefully that his previous IP high was 87 and he is now at 124. He is not pitching deep into this game.

If Heyward homers off him again, he'll petition to have Urias designated all-time pitcher.

Russell hit a ball pretty hard to RF in his last AB last night. Anecdotally it seemed when he was starting to come out of slumps and when he was hot this year he was going to RF hard often. #PositiveVibes

Bad news is that it looks like Roberts won't be dumb enough to repeat his SP mistakes from the NLDS, but that does up the odds of going home up 3-2 quite a bit.

Would it be suicide for Kershaw to pitch, lets say, 5 innings in Game 6 and then come on in relief for 2 innings in Game 7? Or would Roberts be that desperate to risk it?

Well the good news is that just like losses matter a lot, so do wins. A win tonight improves matters considerably.

omg if we win tonight, we would go from funeral to pure jubilation and back to thinking that we are going home up 3-2.

If we reach a game 6 and Kershaw only pitches 5 innings in it, there are non-trivial odds there isn't a game 7. If the Cubs win tonight I'd say those odds go from non-trivial to probable.

This feels like during the season when we would look for little things to say Heyward is fixed. "yeah but yesterday remember he didnt groundout that one time. So what if it was a popup to the catcher, he's finally hitting the ball in the air, time to crush the National League"

Is this the same Dave Roberts that insisted that Kershaw was not going to pitch in G5 of the NLDS?

Yeah but Russell showed an ability to actually be good this year for extended periods and come out of slumps

Lackey is going to have the game of his life, BOOK IT

This could mean that he pitches the worst game of his life. Probably best to be more specific.
