I know he's done for today, but I'm hoping Chapman being on our team makes teams think twice before throwing at our guys. Probably not though

You'd have to be a real Neanderthal to seek payback on that pitch because you thought it was intentional if u take 1 second to look at the game situation

I guarantee you it's coming. It's the Cardinal way.

Again if you are getting Ross out of the game, why does he take the AB against a tough righty. no matter how bad Willson is struggling he's going to be a better choice to hit there than Ross against a righty

A combination of Chapman not being certain of coming out of the game right away, Ross playing well tonight, and pushing Montgomery lower in the order being a shade more important.

I could be completely wrong, but my non-expert opinion is that Chapman's body language in the dugout indicated he told them he didn't want to pitch a 2nd inning.

Tough [expletive], you threw 3 pitches and we only have one other pitcher in the pen that's available. Be a team player. What are you going to do, go into the clubhouse and fire off your gun in protest?

Sometimes you just don't treat every game like it's game 7 of the world series.

Yeah the game doesn't matter much but we gave up a big price for a rental and he won't come back into the game after throwing 3 pitches? Seems like a low risk move

Wasn't it probably just a double switch to put Montgomery in that spot?

Yes but were talking about 1 spot in the order (7th vs 8th) measured against having Willsons bat in the 9th vs David Ross against a tough righty

6th vs 7th, which takes the possibility of him coming up with a scoring situation this inning completely out of the equation.

Think it's 7th vs 8th since Heyward is in the game unless you were talking about how many spots away the pitchers spot was

See how this works, you can bring out your stud closer for a second inning.

I'm not saying Chapman shouldn't have stayed in, but this game is much more important to the Cardinals than it is to the Cubs. The Cubs had the luxury of choosing not to do what the Cardinals had to do.
