So no one wants to mention how Heyward looked last night? Yeah he got credited with a "base hit" but we all know if it weren't for the M. Carpenter misplay he would have been 0-4 yesterday...

I don't want to harp on this, but his swing still looks messed up and his timing is still off. Maybe he'll break out and his new swing mechanics will work out this season. I just find it funny so many people here think last season was a fluke and that he would be at least league-average this yr. I doubt that -- I seriously doubt that now.

To be fair to Heyward, a lot of Cubs players looked bad yesterday against C. Martinez. It seems like KB in particular really struggles against the Cardinals...

I hope he doesn't opt out on us.

The fascinating thing about people's perception of Heyward to me is that somehow they think he has been and always will be awful offensively, like he's never provided value there, so there's no reason to think he ever will.

It's weird. From my interactions with non-saber-friendly people, him sucking last year was complete vindication that sabermetrics are wrong. It was like everyone else always knew he sucked, except for saber people. And then saber people still thought he was awesome, even though he sucked. I'm like, uh no, sabermetrics concur that he sucked last year.

I was critical of him after game 1 so I'll admit I'm pleasantly surprised by his uptick in performance. I still don't like the swing, but it's working for now. I still think he's gonna go into a slump and he hits too many groundballs, but at least he isn't striking out anymore.

Call me crazy but I still hope he opts out just because I think the last few yrs are gonna be ugly and the defense will be in decline. Also, we could allocate that money somewhere else to someone better (probably).

Everyone here knows he will go into a slump, just like everyone here knows the haters are anxiously waiting for it to happen so they can continue complaining about him as soon as it starts

As much as I'm enjoying this season so far, nothing makes me happier than to see Heyward getting such positive results at the plate.

Yeah, every player goes through stretches like that; to talk like when it inevitably happens to Heyward it will be some kind of "ah-HAH"-moment is weird.

Okay let me further explain that as meaning a deep slump or a long slump. Yeah, every hitter goes through stretches where they struggle and slump. It happens. I'm just not sold on Heyward being this productive. I hope I'm wrong guys. I'm not a "Hater" or someone who wants to see him struggle. Seems like a good dude and a great teammate.

Heyward had a .344 wOBA this year entering today's game(.329 at this instant). His career total is .336, including .346, .329, and .344 in the years before joining the Cubs. He's snagged a couple singles from BABIP luck but the rest of his peripherals are not abnormal. Treating Heyward's 2017 as if it is flukish or out of the ordinary for him is strange.

And the hard contact is way up from where it was at this point last season. His approach has been good so a deep slump will either be the result of BABIP or mechanical breakdown. A 115 wRC+ is totally feasible given his track record.

The fascinating thing about his 8-year contract is that it only takes him through his age 33 season. In decline, maybe, but certainly not a guarantee. It for sure doesn't have to be ugly.

I want him to opt out too, but only because that means he had a great two seasons.

Yeah, his total fart of a 2016 is the abnormality.

Win the world series, get schwarber back, an improved addison russell and a fixed heyward? Nice. Especially since our pitching is ehhhh

Its April 24th and Jason Heyward got his 3rd home run of the season.

He didn't get his 3rd home run until June 6th last year. (He didn't hit his first until May 17th)
