Since he's come here and sucked offensively I thought he should almost change his stance be more of what Derrek Lee did. Get way more straight up and not so crouched and incorporate a bigger leg kick. They are both really tall (for a baseball player) and long, athletic guys and that more straight up stance with a leg kick would seem to help using the leverage they can create instead of being crouched down and using basically all arms like Heyward does.

I should add I know next to nothing but I always loved Lee's swing and stance.

Lee's butt was much higher.

Or to give a more recent example and with ties to our new hitting coach, getting somewhere “straight up” like Jackie Bradley Jr would be something I’d like to see.

I think D. Lee was the most complete hitter I've ever seen while watching the Cubs. His performance in 2005 was amazing and MVP-worthy. I also like his stance and how he uses a leg kick, but it's not for everyone. D. Lee had great hands and a great swing. I really wouldn't try to get J. Heyward to start using a bigger leg kick. Not a good idea. Heyward has timing issues, and a leg kick could further mess up his timing at the plate.

If he wants more power he needs to start utilizing his lower half and properly distribute weight during his swing. A lot of times when his front foot lands it's sliding forward or looks awkward, and he just uses his arms and upper body to power the ball.

The amplified sound of bat hitting ball is what I find confusing. From the sound of it, you'd never know the contact above would've resulted in a weak pop out to SS (sans being inside and the netting).

Crazy.

Without a major overhaul I'm afraid he'll never be that productive on offense. Pitchers know how to exploit his weaknesses right now. Like TT said, if he gets enough +DRS and plays amazing defense then he'll still be valuable to the Cubs. Just sucks that all his value is pretty much derived on defense.

If I have faith in anyone saving the day, it's Chili [expletive] Davis.

Or Rod Carew.

I listened to a podcast a year or so back about Carew and they discussed him as a hitting coach. He apparently become very bitter about the state of hitting in MLB and hating coaching in the K era.

Which is why he would be perfect fir Heyward. I mean, it makes no sense, but neither does a 6-5 RF with absolutely zero power.

I don't know what you have against Jason Heyward but not cool Duke

What's the worst that could happen? He sucks and is an albatross around our necks for the rest of time?
