Willson already has more career HR against the Cards than KB does. It's obviously a terribly small sample but so far it does seem like Molina has won the cat and mouse game vs KB the majority of the time and he simply hasn't barreled up many balls against Cards pitchers yet. I'm sure when it's all said and done his numbers vs them will bear out similarly to his career line but at this point he has looked a little over matched, FWIW.

All we can really take away from this is Willson is probably the best catcher in baseball. And he fell to us out of the clouds. #PraiseTheo (probably should really be McLeod but let's keep his ego down so his stays around longer than he should).

What :-s !?! Why should we praise McLeod for the success of W. Contreras? We didn't draft W. Contreras and this new Cubs regime under Theo & Jed didn't even sign him as an Int. Free Agent. As strange as it sounds, we should be thanking J. Hendry (or at least the scout under J. Hendry that recommended signing him). Realistically, most of the credit goes to W. Contreras for transforming from a non-prospect to a first-division C and possible All-Star selection.

I guess... Thank who you want about getting him here, but the current FO identified him as a middling infield prospect who could maybe be a catcher and now here we are.

Hey, he's been pretty patient with Heyward, and deserves to know when this new swing business will satisfy him, personally.

Thank you Jim Hendry for Contreras, Baez, and tanking so hard we drafted Kris Bryant.

Hendry's last season led to Almora, not KB.

I made the post because no one mentioned his struggles yesterday.

Because it was the first game of the season. Were you expecting a running commentary about him after every game?

Not to mention the FO that spent significant resources and spared no expenses in overhauling the development system. I think some people really underrate that aspect when discussing the Cubs hit rate on prospects. Theo said it in his intro PC, that he wanted to create the "Cubs Way", standardize development throughout the minor league levels so that instructors, coaches and managers were all delivering the same message and focusing on developing the same way. They (via Ricketts) invested heavily in new Cubs facilities in Mesa and in the DR so that their prospects had access to the best tools and equipment possible.

Yup, I think a great player like Bryant makes it no matter how your player development runs, but even very good players can be ruined (Baez, willlson, maybe even rizzo- see Padres, San Diego) by bad player development.

Corey Patterson had a 5 WAR season AFTER the knee injury (granted it was because of his defense) and dusty still tried to turn him into a slap-hitter.

Remember that time when Corey Patterson was intentionally walked so they could pitch to Sammy Sosa instead?

The idea of Corey Patterson's player development in the hands of this FO makes me feel all tingly.

Are you suggesting they would have given him more than 25 PAs at AA before promoting him because Dusty wanted him as a pinch runner?

Jason Heyward has the highest batting average of the position players.

#Fixed

EDIT: Nope, Contreras is batting .429. Nevermind, Heyward sucks.

It's still early, but I have to give credit where credit is due. J. Heyward is hitting the ball pretty well even if the swing is still pretty ugly. Hopefully he continues being this productive.
