especially since schwarber was probably like our 5th best regular and, while the replacements aren't great (or him), he's not being replaced by like jason dubois or bobby scales or something either.

I'm lower on him than most, but I think you could make a case for 8th. He is definitely behind Rizzo, Bryant, and Heyward. Probably Russell and Zobrist. And I'm not 100% in 2016 he is better than Fowler or Montrro.

Montero? No way.

i don't think it's out of the realm of sane thoughts to consider that montero might have a more valuable season than schwarber might've.

I wouldn't consider it expected, but I don't think there's a huge gap between, say, an expectation level schwarber season and a good montero year.

If you had to rank the Cubs by their offensive ceilings (taking into account someone at 28 is probably at their ceiling, while someone who is 23 has the potential to have a higher ceiling) how would you rank the Cubs hitters currently?

I'd have to consider Schwarber around 2nd or 3rd, but the risk/chances of him hitting that ceiling lower than other Cubs.

offensive ceiling adjusted for positional value or just purely blind "which of these guys can put up the highest wOBA?"

Good question. I guess I was thinking the later. If the former, Addison shoots up my list and past Schwarber.

Still trying to be optimistic. I was thinking about how Theo said he could never top that Dexter moment.

But maybe he can when Schwarbs is in the lineup at catcher tonight?

Maybe if Fowler isn't out there nobody stops Schwarber's momentum and he runs into the wall at full speed and dies?

There's only half a win difference in their ZIPS projections, and that's with Montero getting fewer PAs and no credit for pitch framing.

If he was out for the year would they have immediately placed him on the 60-day DL or no? Which maybe they have for all I know.

I don't think they know yet. Don't you have to wait for the swelling to go down to do an MRI?

It's too bad Almora isn't at least at a point where he could be a passable MLB hitter. We could go straight up silly good OF defense right now if he could, with Fowler and Heyward in the corners.

Yeah, I think that's right. I vaguely remember that with Rose's first knee injury.

The swelling in Rose's knee or vagina?

I have a few doctor friends that have been speculating on he injury, and their money is on high ankle sprain, and if the knee has any problems, they think that MCL is more likely than ACL.

I had a really bad MCL sprain in college. I had a range of motion of only about 40 degrees for a month. All that added together, I don't think we see Schwarber until July...if something is completely torn, season ending.

If it's a ligament, it's definitely medial. If it's ACL, then it's ACL AND MCL.

I thought the swelling had to go down before he had surgery, not for the MRI. Or maybe its both.

No it's the amputation that you can do right away, I'm pretty sure.

Ha I get it, like he's a girl. Sick burn.

i'm no doctor, but i'm not sure why the swelling would need to go down for an mri. for surgery, yes, that would make sense.

Agreed. And that often takes days and days. No way they need to wait for it to go down to know it's an ACL tear.

If they did it would sometimes take weeks for teams to diagonose a torn ACL. I suspect they already know if he did or not.

I had this exact thought this morning. I'm not the biggest Almora fan by any means, but if Schwarber is out for a long time and Soler and Baez struggle, it'd be fun to throw Almora out there in a few months and just make OF defense a super strength. All around defense, really, with the possible exception of Zobrist.
