I was more agreeable to a 6th starter when we were up 15 games or whatever. Starting one against Felix Hernandez doesn't seem like a very good way to win the rubber game of a series but hopefully it works out.

Not to mention it ensures no Lester/Jake in the Marlins series where they throw their 2 top starters and probably Cashner in the other

Yeah, who cares about starters wearing out in the playoffs like Arrieta last year?

Maddon has been pretty good this year about getting guys appropriate rest, limiting pitch counts etc this year. If it was common for pitchers to wear out going into October you'd see other teams using 6 starters.

But it's not 15, Duke.

What do you mean on short notice? He's on 7 days rest. Theo and Jed must have seen something in his mechanical changes and strong Cubs minor league numbers to give him a chance.

I am curious as to what they saw in him because what I saw was pure garbage.

It's totally subjective and absolutely meaningless, but games like tonight's make the team feel special. Love come from behind shenanigans which includes a winning pitcher bunt.

So many of the wins this year have been low drama shellackings and so many of the losses have been god damn heartbreakers, that its nice to have a good ol walk off. Very 2015.

I know a lot of people are/were not fans of Clark the Cub, but my daughter absolutely LOVED getting to meet him tonight. Got a picture with him, his autograph, then "he" tweeted the picture they took.

That locked in her Cubs fandom.

“Give our guys credit, that’s the kind of moment that propels you,” Maddon said. “We haven’t had a walk off at home yet.”

What is he talking about? What about the Javy HR against Washington?

He probably meant we haven't had a pitcher walk off a win yet this year :)

Rest assured, Javy will most certainly let Joe know about Javy's awesomeness.

I posted this question in the Matusz thread, but I'm posting it here too as it feels more relevant to general cubs chit chat.

Is there anyway to find out the projected rotation through Cubs @ Rockies? I want to know who I'm likely seeing those 3 games.

They don't take it out that far, but you get the idea of the rough guys who will be there if you take the rotation out in your head.

That makes me unhappy.

so in the last, what 10 days or so, the Cubs have faced Sale, King Felix and Jose Fernandez and won all three games?

yes

yeah it was rhetorical :) I just posted that to marvel in it. Of course they might get dominated by McCallup Johnson or someone too.

Great off-day reading. Basically Rizzo, Bryant and Ross talking to each other and giving each other horsefeathers

http://www.theplayerstribune.com/cubs-anthony-rizzo-kris-bryant-david-ross-retirement/

My favorite is either Bryzzo giving Ross crap for running off the field with 2 outs in the NLCS/trying to throw out a runner between first and second after the Diamondbacks won the game or this part:

Ross

What did KB say the other day that we were giving him crap for, Rizz? Oh! He was like — freakin’ Golden Boy over here — he said something cheesy like,“I’m just glad I get to play baseball today.” And we just started raggin’ on him like, “You disgust me!”

Rizzo

Haha, yeah. “You make me sick!”

Great stuff. The end of this exchange cracked me up:

Bryant

What are you gonna do when you retire?

Ross

I’m gonna go to the beach with the family. I’m gonna go to the beach, and I’m gonna stay at the beach. For like a month. Maybe I’ll rent a house. And maybe in the winter I’ll learn to ski. I’ve never been skiing. You can’t do that when you’re playing baseball. Not with a catcher’s knees. Now, if I blow a knee out skiing, it won’t matter. I’ve got nothing else to do.

Then I think I’m gonna come to some games and sit right on the first base line by Rizz and heckle him. Tell him to get his crap together. You know, I’ll come back and wave to the people, maybe sing during the seventh-inning stretch.
