Obviously the correct move. Money aside I do feel kind of bad for him. The Cubs broke him trying to unlock more power and couldn't unbreak him.

Honestly I think he's just lucky Statcast wasn't implemented a year or two earlier. Jason Heyward xwOBA by year

2015 - .317

2016 - .301

2017 - .319

2018 - .319

2019 - .323

The differences between Heyward any year between 2013 and 2019 look to be like 80% BABIP and the run environment.

Definitely the right call to pull the plug now. I thought it was a pretty safe assumption he wouldn't be back next year but I did think he'd come back in September. Glad the team isn't doing that.

Great guy and a legend for the Game 7 speech but it's the right call. I've honestly been waiting for it for awhile now.

So does he get to seek a trade and Cubs trade a prospect to find a taker or do we just eat a year of his salary and release him?

Get out the knife and fork because they will be eating his contract.

Care to go back a few days and eat that post you made about them understanding sunk costs?

Got way too much credit for basically saying, "hey, youre still the same team that carried me for 6 months"

Sent from my motorola one 5G UW using Tapatalk

And then promptly struck out with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 10th inning.

Last time I saw Schwindel had a WAR of -0.9 this year. Thank horsefeathering god

I like him a lot and was able to chat with him after a game last season. The league figured him out pretty hard this year. Maybe he can get his swing back in Iowa. Maybe.

Please let us see some Mervis at bats so we know if he's an option for next year.

How could using a using a deceased celebrity's likeness for profit possibly be construed as offensive? In fact, I think the hologram should wear a Budweiser shirt too for a little extra ad revenue. Then we'll bring in Ron and Ernie to sing the 7th inning stretch presented by Wintrust.

Call me crazy but I think the field of dreams uniforms should be the every day away game uniform

By which he means getting 2nd/3rd tier FA and hyping them like they're 1st tier.

I think it's funny that Ricketts used the exact same statement last season (active in Free Agency) and ended up with a team that's going to lose 95+ games

So if you were the GM of the Cubs, and you have expectations of a pretty good pitching staff, and most of your starters get injured and miss much time, wouldn't that take you down too? You guys act like this is the fault of the owner and the GM. Why? They set up a pretty good staff. They got injured. Miley has barely pitched, Mills and Alzolay have not pitched at all. Your big free agent signing has missed much time and has hardly any wins. Now Hendricks is out indefinitely. Whose fault is that? Blame the owner? Stupid. Blame the GM? Stupid. Blame the injuries. They were able to have a really good bullpen and sell them off at the deadline for some pretty good pieces. And they have a really good minor league season taking place. So if you were the GM, and all your starters go down, you would be right where these guys are. And you would say, "but this is not the team I set up, we had many injuries", and that would be correct. Give these guys a break on this losing season. This is not the team they planned to play this year. Just be happy that Steele and Thompson stepped in very well to lead the starting staff, or it could be much worse than it is.
