No surgery for Hendricks, but he’s going to be out for awhile.

Enjoy your Leiter Jr. starts!

I feel like I heard something about Stroman, Miley and Smyly all starting to throw like 10 or so days ago. I would assume at least 1 of them would be back in the next 2 weeks, no?

Edit: Just googled it, Stroman and Smyly are likely to start this weekend

Yeah, the all-star break is in 10 days too, so while you still will need one of Sampson/Swarmer/Leiter even after Stroman and Smyly return, with Miley and Mills's timeline their days should be numbered. Especially since Miley's injury doesn't exactly make him an in demand trade target, plus if a permanent rotation spot opened up they might bring Kilian back. Also, Alzolay may still be alive in a closet in Mesa somewhere.

There's a popular photo and video YouTuber who recently shot at the cubs game using insane camera gear and documented the process. Thought it would be good to share here:

I thoroughly enjoyed the game last night with Pat, Doug, and Dempster in the booth. So much better than Boog and JD's forced comradery.

I don't listen to a ton of Boog and JD but I haven't picked up on a lack of harmony. Especially if you compare to Boog's rapport with the lesser JD replacements he's had to deal with recently. I forget the specifics but remember laughing at how animated and nearly exasperated he got with one of the side convos he had with Sutcliffe last week, certainly not on the same scale compared to keeping up with JD's witticisms.

I've heard Boog just let Sutcliffe's terrible takes just hang in the air, which I enjoy, but I must have missed him getting exasperated. Maybe he and JD are fine, though JD and Len seemed like they really got along and there is a stark difference in the rapport.

Boog and JD seem fine together it’s when they throw in a third person in the booth or force the stupid Taylor side acts in it gets bad. Also whether it’s design by marquee or personal schedules it seems like they just don’t have the booth to themselves that much, if those two could just have the booth for a full year they’d be great. I feel like Glanville and those two work the best together when they throw in a third person or field reporter type.

Just for fun...fWAR of Cubs 2021 deadline and offseason acquisitions:

Hitters:

Villar: -0.7

Simmons: -0.3

Gomes: -0.3

Madrigal: -0.2

Frazier: -0.1

Suzuki: 0.9

Total: -0.7 WAR

Pitchers:

Stroman: 0.6

Miley: 0.5

Smyly: 0.4

Robertson: 0.5

Martin: 0.5

Givens: 0.1

Chavez: -0.1

Norris: -0.3

Total: 2.2 WAR

Combined: 1.5 WAR for roughly $76.8m in 2022 salary

Obviously this would be a bit better if our starting pitchers were healthy, but otherwise yikes...

What the horsefeathers is the time zone on the moon?

I think they used Greenwich mean time as a baseline? I don’t know. Whatever that baseline. It was night time in the us when they walked, per the Tom Hanks movie

Posted
Armstrong first walked on the moon just before 11 pm eastern daylight time. It was probably actually the landing that would've occurred during Santos home run. This was game 2 of a double header and the box on baseball reference doesn't list a starting time. Game 1 started at 1:05 and took under 2 hours. Santo homered in the 3rd inning so the 4:18 PM landing may make more sence... if this happened.

[expletive], who are the jerks who went to a Cubs/Phillies game instead of watching the horsefeathering moon landing.

Hopefully time has hunted them all down.

dunno what joke to make here.

just a straightforward "actually the moon landing never happened, that was a soundstage" post

or

the more detailed "we actually never landed on the moon because molecules don't actually touch each other. so technically we landed on the space that surrounds the moon."
