I was listening to MLB radio this morning on my way to work, and I cannot understand how Steve Phillips maintains a position in the world of baseball in any capacity.

They were talking about Francona's 2,000 win as a manager and what a great communicator he is, and blah, blah, blah. And then Phillips mentions that he passed over Francona for Art horsefeathers Howe to manage the Mets when he was the GM. And he was bragging about it, and not in a self-deprecating way.

Damn,

He had a small part in Risky Business- he mentioned from time to time he would get an annual royalty check of around $60

Local sports radio shows have really disappeared.  I turned The Score on today following the Cubs game. There was a short post-game show and then they went straight to a syndicated sports betting show.  Is there really not a market for an extended post-game show or other local coverage on a Saturday afternoon?  Who is listening to generic national coverage from BetMGM (or whatever it was that sponsored it)?  Or are they so focused on pinching pennies that the can't afford to pay a couple guys to sit in a studio for a few hours?

Quoting myself from a few months back, but I was at the Cubs/Red Sox game Saturday night and turned the radio on again for my drive home.  It is so jarring to have a short postgame wrap-up show that cuts right over to a syndicated national show in progress.  I truly cannot believe there isn't a market for extended postgame radio coverage.  Maybe not when the team is bad, but when you are covering a first place team in a huge market, how can you not at least stick a guy in a studio to take phone calls for an hour?  Who is actually listening to these syndicated broadcasts?  As soon as I hear one, I change the station immediately.

You don't even have to stick a guy in a studio, just have him take calls/discuss the game from home. During Covid, that's what they did anyway

Ryno did that on the Score in 2016. They should do something like that again.

Especially since the games are no longer on national broadcast like WGN anymore. I pay for the streaming service, but I'm sure a lot either don't want to pay for it or can't afford it. I would imagine radio would still have a strong following. Maybe podcasts have replaced the need for radio coverage?

That's right Ricketts. Actively work to alienate your fan base. The team that got nation wide popularity thanks to WGN will be shrinking their audience even more.

They suck but I think your anger is misdirected here.  This is a Comcast decision, not a Marquee decision.

Depends on how much Marquee is charging Comcast at least a little bit, right?

Edit: To be clear, not at all defending Comcast is any situation

Sure, but I doubt that number has changed with the carriage being negotiated so recently.  Maybe there was a built in escalator after the first season or something, but this strikes me as either Comcast just doing it because they want more money or don't want to bother with carrying it going forward and the higher tier will drop subscriptions enough that they can get out of the deal.

Comcast is one of the shittiest corporations that exist today, I blame them more than PTR.

From their near monopoly on Internet to their ****** customer service.

I don't think they have a monopoly on internet anymore do they?  In my area we have Comcast, U-Verse, Google Fiber and companies like Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T have a 5G Home Internet option.  I switched to Verizon's option when we ditched Xfinity finally and have had no change to my internet.  Can stream multiple TVs, play online gaming, use our cell phones all while WFH with no lag.

My options are Comcast or I can get AT&T at a max of 25 Mbps.

Hmm, I guess I'm lucky.  About 3-4 years ago those were my only options too but its really expanded with 5G

I guess I can give T Mobile a try its available now. I think they have a 15 day return policy if it sucks. Might try that and keep Comcast in the meantime.

It's definitely worth a try.  I was resistant to trying 5G thinking it had to suck, but it's been really good for me.  I switched to Verizon 5G for internet and DirectTV Stream for cable, get all the necessary sports stations and save about $60 a month over what I was paying for Xfinity.

I've had Verizon 5g home internet for like 5 years now and it's always been fantastic. I've even moved a few times and their website said my new place "wasn't available" for the service, but I just plugged it in and it kept working without a problem. Only $25 per month and the rest of my phone bill is heavily subsidized by my work. Pretty sweet situation

Yep same for me.  All the 5G options are unavailable and Fiber still hasn't made its way to me despite me having neighbors all around me who have it, it hasn't made its way to my block. For reasons?

Only other option I guess is satellite. I don't understand why the 5G offerings aren't available by me. Signal seems strong enough, so what are the barriers?
