A rookie has the best OPS in baseball. He's in line for a Triple Crown. Say what you will about RBI but this season from a rookie is incredible.

I hope he keeps it up. I know he's a Yankee and I never pull for them but this is historical stuff what he's doing. Gotta admire it.

i actually never understood the yankee hate. is it just overexposure from the media? i mean i am sure lots of people hate the cubs for that. i have a good friend that is a huge yankees fan and he always pulled for the cubs so i kind of return the favor for the yankees with him. plus i'm really happy for starlin.

i would LOVE for a cubs/yankees WS this year. that would be amazing.

could be from the days of their high payroll/buying free agents left and right to fill holes in their roster (they seemed to throw money at good/great players more often than not), winning 4 world series in 5 years and being in the playoffs just about every year for almost 15 years straight. you could throw in the jeter love affair and the disdain of steinbrenner into the mix, as well.

these yankees don't bother me as much. kind of cool to see the youngsters produce and compete as well as they have. aaron hicks is finally having a breakout year.

Yeah I didn't really mind the Yankees during their mid-90s dominance but then they just started buying the top 2 FA seemingly every year and just seemed like a squad of mercenaries.

This Yankee team reminds me a lot of our 2015 squad. They've arrived a year too early in a lot of minds but they are for real and I'm sure they will make a couple big splashes at the deadline to fortify the pitching.

They have a team wRC+ of 146 this month. 6 hitters well over 150 and 2 of those over 230. horsefeathering insane.

i never minded when they spent big and picked up free agents. I couldn't justify it in my mind that I would care if the Cubs had (which they kind of did with Soriano) so I couldn't hold that against them. but that was just me.

I actually prefer this. horsefeathers the in shape guy that won easily, after being given a 200 foot lead.

Maybe even get them fatter and give them bigger leads.

Steinbrenners are truly awful humans

Yankees fans are arrogant POS that think they somehow contributed to the 90s success. 80% of sports writers grew up as shitty Yankees mantle myth pushing garbage people that perpetuated every wrong baseball opinion that ever existed.

But I'm sure your friend is a decent guy.

Yeah, the Steinbreenner thing is certainly fair and valid and i really only know the one yankee fan (my friend) so I can certainly appreciate that as well.

And, eh, he's a decent guy but I'd stop short of calling him anything further than that. He can be a real dick but most of my friends are like that (I'm guilty, of that too)

I know Dexter, amongst others, already wear them but the Jordan 12s David Price is wearing tonight made me realize every player should be required to wear them in their teams color scheme.

I really thought the Phillies were going to be sneaky good this season. Geeeez.

There were still a lot questions entering the season but I didn't expect them to be this bad. Basically all their good young SPs took a step back this year and Franco and Herrera have looked lost at the plate.

Just when you thought you couldn't possibly hate Joe West more than you do:

https://sports.yahoo.com/joe-west-nobody-today-society-144622190.html

Baseball is a funny game. It’s typically American. If you don’t succeed it’s someone else’s fault. And the first person you want to look at is the official. Just look at our last election. When Hillary lost, it’s someone else’s fault. The Russians. Wikileaks. It’s the fact you couldn’t stand up and say ‘I lost.’ Nobody in today’s society wants to say ‘I wasn’t good enough.’

Is it just me or did anyone else just assume Preller had already gotten fired for ruining the Padres beyond repair? I looked him up just now to see when that happened and was surprised to see he's still San Diego's GM. Then I go to make this post and what's the most recent one above it?

And Preller gave [Grandal] up for Kemp + $$$, if I remember correctly.

The Baltimore Orioles have allowed 5 runs or more in 19 consecutive games, now one short of a MLB record.

I can't even fathom that being possible.
