Raleigh did it - 60 dongs. Really, I cant think of many more improbable seasons. Brady Anderson, Jacoby Ellsbury come to mind. He nearly doubled his career high. The last couple seasons were great but this is unbelievable.

Brady Anderson was mainlining HGH while standing at the plate

The thought of improbable seasons made me think - does anyone remember Carlos Silva's 2010 season? He was pretty much the worst starting pitcher in baseball before he somehow put together a solid season with the Cubs. His end of year numbers didn't end up looking that great, but he had a sub 3 ERA after 16 starts before imploding a bit towards the end.

Vaguely. I've tried to wipe the 2010 Cubs from my memory.

Tigers are 5-15 in September, don't know if anyone watched their game in Cleveland the other night.  Cruising along up 2-0 with Skubal on the mound, 6th inning, Guardians take the lead without a ball leaving the infield.  Bunt, Bunt, GB, Bunt attempt with the ball hitting the batter, Frey, in the face, believe they may shook up Skubal, WP, Balk and GB turned into 3 runs, ball game for the Guardians. When that kind of nonsense happens it may be time to come to terms with not winning the AL Central Tigers.  Last night, Dingler drops an easy popup behind the plate afterwards, Guardians plate two insurance runs.

The Editor of our college newspaper got in trouble for calling in a fake fire call in order to get an action photo of the new fire truck

Detroit loses 8 in a row but still holds onto a 1 game lead because the Astros have lost 5 in a row themselves. The Rangers would also be in the mix, but they've gone 2-8 over their last 10 games. No one wants the final WC spot in the AL.

This year is only the third season, along with 1998 and 2001, where 4 players have hit 50 HRs in a season. Suarez hit 49 tonight so we could have 5 guys.

He caught for 120 games this year, which makes it even wilder.

Mets lose and Reds win so they’re tied. I believe the Mets lose all 2 and 3 way tiebreakers with the Reds and DBacks which means if the Mets lose and Reds win on Saturday, the Mets are out.

EDIT: Reds up 3-1 in the 9th so haven’t won yet.

Detroit’s collapse needs to be studied. 2-12 over their last 14 and 6-16 this month to be tied in the division. Four of the losses have come against the White Sox and Marlins.

Someone has definitely put a rocket under the Guardians to get themselves onto the division race this month, but none of it would have even mattered without the Tigers collapse.

Boston is in. They could still be WC2 or WC3. If they win one of two against Detroit, they're WC2 and will play either NY or Tor. If they lose both, then it depends on Cleveland. Cleveland owns the tiebreaker over Detroit and Detroit owns the tiebreaker over Boston, so a three way tie (Det wins 2, Cle wins 2) would give Cleveland the division, Detroit WC2 and Bos WC3. If Detroit wins 2 and Cleveland wins 0 or 1, Detroit wins the Central and Boston is WC2. WC3 would come down to what Houston does (1 game back of Det/Cle right now).

I can't imagine Boston trying very hard knowing they're going on the road regardless and there doesn't appear to be much difference between NYY/Tor/Cle. So Boston clinching is good for Detroit and bad for Houston.

The post that isn't displaying, if you don't want to click through, said "The Yankees are more fun to hate and the Mets are more fun to laugh at."

HA!  That was my post.  Not sure how to edit that setting.
