I cannot emphasize enough, that would be the stupidest rule change in the history of sports (Manfred is probably responsible for the current #1 as well with the fake runner rule).

Part of what makes baseball great is you never know when the big moment is going to arrive or who will be at the plate when it does. So yeah, let's get rid of it to manufacture more 'drama.'

7.5 times out of 10 it's going to end in an out. It's really stupid, but that's baseball.

Maybe they'll let the pitching team get "do-overs" too.

Ugh we’re stuck with this idiot as commissioner for at least 4 more years too.

According to him (so believe it if you want I guess), he's retiring after this term, so it'd be 'only' the 4 years.

I don't have a crystal ball but I would bet that the next guy will be worse.

Such a dumb idea. Do teams then get to bring back a pitcher that was previously used to face 1 batter again? I agree with Andy saying this is just an attempt to manufacture more drama in games. Try this silly stuff out for fun in All-Star games and leave it out of the regular season and playoffs.

Make Theo commissioner, get rid of Manfred. This is the kind of rule you make up in the backyard as kids playing wiffleball because your kid brother sucks and it's his turn to hit

I think Theo would do exactly the same kind of stuff than Manfred did.

His whole shtick as a GM was being willing to make unpopular moves that set up future success. If ever there was a commissioner who was prepared to weather a storm of jeers, it would be Theo.

I think Theo understands what makes baseball great better than Manfred. Manfred is a suit whose sole purpose is making money for the owners.

Not sure Theo is that different. Buuuuuuuttttt, I don't think he'd propose a golden at bat.

Can you imagine, bottom of the 10th, 2 out, Cleveland down 8-7 and instead of Francona paying for the gamble of bringing in Michael Martinez for defense by having him be their last hope against a LHP (which he was significantly worse against), he gets to bring up Jose Ramirez or whoever?  Just seems like such a terrible unnecessarily radical idea.   Not interested in Manfred's "heat check" after implementing a pitch clock, bringing the DH to the NL and the Manfred Man

why are you the way that you are GIF

This is an incredibly stupid proposal, but a small part of me wants them to implement it to further expose Jed and his boring "good but not great players" roster construction.  The Dodgers can get Shohei Ohtani an extra at bat per game while the Cubs are sending up... Ian Happ?

Awesome. So by bringing in a horsefeathers rule, the league are going to horsefeathers over players with clauses in their contracts that are contingent on reaching a certain amount of at bats.

I remember playing lob league in Cicero as a kid, and the team captain would quite often yell, "new order" because a kid who sucked was coming up.

Rather, than looks for ways to objectify the calling balls and strikes let's go with the Golden At-Bat.  Such beyond stupid horsefeathers.

Looks like Ichiro, Sabathia, and Wagner are pretty close to locks to make it into the HOF tonight.  Beltran's right on the edge.  Final numbers are usually on average 5ish points lower than the ballot tracker
