It was in direct reference to him being double-switched in a weird way and being given a day off. Just letting him know an imminent trade wasn't the reason both of those things were happening. I don't think it was any sort of guarantee past that.

Yeah but even a low end rental like Ian Kennedy is better than Beeler/Richards/Wada etc and there is no way it costs a elite prospect for him. Edited by sontensei

They could put him on the 60 day DL for "depleted skills".

but I can understand the POV of not wanting to make a move the way the season is playing out.

I cannot because that is incredibly stupid.

2015 was never the year!

It's incredibly stupid, and way more common than it should be.

I STILL hold out hope that Hamels will be following Lester and Arrieta in the rotation come Friday.

Its stupid to fall back to that as an excuse for standing pat, but its not stupid to look at the situation (2.5 games out of a spot for a 1 game playoff on the road to get into the division series) and the market (seems to be a lot of teams rich in money and prospects chasing guys like Hamels and Price) and the team (a bunch of high potential but struggling and inconsistent young hitters, 3 of them in their first full seasons) and make the determination that it's not worth giving up someone the caliber of Schwarber (or maybe even a rung below) for a 10% better chance of making the division series in one season when there are several attractive FAs to go after in the offseason that won't cost a top prospect (but will cause the loss of a first round pick).

At least that's how I see it.

Who has ever talked about trading Schwarber for a rental? There's a chasm between trading Schwarber for Dan Haren and trading guys who wouldn't be drafted in Rule 5 3 years from now.

Sorry I assumed when people were saying 'standing pat' they were referring to major moves not someone like Haren. I'm all for doing that.

With every passing day I think more and more that trading Baez is going to be a disaster. His swing right now is so much likely to produce results. Even without the leg kick he destroyed both of those balls last night.

This isn't even two weeks old and makes me laugh:

Now they're today's favorite. I appreciate Twitter for the awesome stuff - hoowahs, hilarity, and such - but dear Jah is it tedious for sports.

I do not get why people talk about twitter this way. The site is under a decade old and this same [expletive] has gone on for decades. This is a link to a website citing beat writers quoting team execs from multiple platforms. This stuff is what happens every trading deadline and it has happened since long before twitter existed.

Mets have acquired Gomez, according to Joel Sherman.

good just in time for the cubs to come up there

I'd rather him stay in Milwaukee and not going to one of our 2 competitors for a playoff spot

Upton and Ross about to go somewhere - both pulled in the 6th. Given that's about what the price for Baez might be, I find myself hoping it's Houston.

Edit: scratch that, it was Kemp switched out. F/U Twitter.

I like that trade a lot for both the Brewers and Mets

Like it more for the Brewers, although Wheeler had some pretty big surgeries and won't be ready until next July or so and also has had previous arm questions even before being drafted. So, there is risk. But I'm not a huge Gomez fan, so I like it better for them.

if the mets are going for it to a degree, theo has to do something, we have been ahead of them all season in the wildcard

I bet final offers are in for Hamels and Price.

Going to really suck when the Dodgers get them both.

I think there's a legit chance of it, which is just [expletive] sad.

Why, exactly? Why do we have to sell pieces of a very bright future to try to beat the Mets for a Wild Card spot?

If the Mets turn out to be better than the Cubs, it won't matter. Because the Giants will have been better than them, too. The Cubs are better than the Mets. I'm totally focusing on the Giants.
