If Montero really is close to coming back, I could see the Cubs moving Coghlan. I could also see the Padres having interest if they're trying to contend next season and if they aren't freaked out by the left-handed hitter thing.

Almora and Olt aren't in the lineup tonight. Only minor leaguers I've seen not starting that normally do. I guess that'd get Kennedy....

Olt on his own should suffice

I'll take Venabale and Kirmbrel too, please

Alcantara is not in the lineup either.....This would be a golf clap worthy troll job if SOMETHING isn't going on.

So Castro + CJ + Olt + Alcantra + Almora for Ross and Kimbrel? I can live with that.

Remember the word was they wanted us to take Gyorko as salary swap?

I can't imagine SD possibly taking that deal. Maybe if we take Gyorko and pay most of Castro's salary.

I'd be thrilled to see Castro and Edwards for Ross and Kimbrel, but we'd have to include more - probably much more. Maybe add McKinney and Underwood.

This.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. I get that they might be trying to hold off trading Baez, but I hope the front office isn't delaying this by caring about guys like Underwood.

They want Baez? Give us Upton or Kemp and he's theirs.

My favorite part is "Upton or Kemp", you know, whichever. If that falls through we could offer Baez to the Rangers for either Hamilton or Odor.

It's nothing to due with viewing them as equal players. I want Upton, but he's a long shot. Kemp, on the other hand, I could see them being willing to move for a lesser player return and some salary relief.

I don't want to imply that the Padres should take that deal in particular, but keep in mind that we're dealing with the GM who traded Grandal and other things for Matt Kemp and all of his contract. There's 3 RH hitting position players in that offer(4 if you include Alcantara's switch hittedness), there's a small chance even offering them all at once caused Preller to choke on his tongue with excitement.

Theo needs to hold strong and be ready to walk away. I think Preller needs a big deal more than he does, and there aren't as many potential buyers for him as there were 48 hours ago. Baez needs to be 100% off the table.

Ross and Kimbrel are both locked up through 2018, so if the rumors of us going after them are true I'd say that qualifies.

Seems whatever it is is substantial

I wonder if the Yankees/Kimbrel connection was from the Mateo chatter, or if it's something new and we aren't working on a package with him in it?

If the asking price is super high on Kimbrel, Benoit is a solid arm still.....Peripherals down this year though, but in last year of his deal. If money is truly tight, allocating that much for a shut down closer could conceivably hurt our chances at a TOR SP in the offseason.... But, if you add Ross, are we even looking for one? Or just going after Heyward instead? That'd make sense to me anyway.....

Yeah if you add Ross, it's hard to picture a huge contract SP being the target. Fowler/the OF would seem to be more likely, and they won't have the cost of someone like Price.

Hey, speaking of FA to be OF, Upton could also be in play in a 'big' deal.
