Yeah OH is huge on, "well if he were in the AL east he wouldn't be any good" justification. What I do know for certain is that the O's current rotation is not going to win a WS. With Hardy and Cruz gone after this year and Wieters and Davis' contracts ending the year after, you'd think they would be in win now mode. They certainly can't afford to resign them all.

Is the AL East still good?

No.

What I can't figure out why they think the NL Central is the worst division in the NL. They sent 3 teams to the playoffs last year including the WS representative.

O's are in need a closer type as well as a SP. Britton is more valuable as a guy who can induce double plays and go multiple innings. What type of return would you need to ship Rondon over with Samardzija? You'd still have future closer candidates in Vizcaino,Rivero and Ramirez.

If they won't do Gausman and Bundy without the Cubs including Rondon as well, I'd trade him.

The best team is the Blue Jays, that should tell you everything. Every other team has a negative run differential.

That's what I thought. They've been coasting on identity as a division for a little while now. It's not that tough.

Just like I figured would happen, Gausman is now basically equal to Samardzija over on OH. Jeff Samardzija who is a 4-4.5ERA pitcher in the mighty AL East.

When I said Gausman and Bundy, I meant Gausman and Bundy.

That has zero chance of happening.

I think the Cubs can get one - I think they'll insist, in fact, as they'll need a guy who's close to the big leagues. One of those two, Harvey or Rodriguez (not both) and Sisco is a realistic deal, with maybe a decent A-ball prospect to pad it out. Throw them Russell or Wright as part of the deal.

I still like that deal. I don't have a preference between Gausman and Bundy, but I really like Harvey over ERod. I think the Cub's could throw in Christian Villanueva also. Machado is moving to SS next year, and Villanueva would give them a cost effecient option at 3rd. (Bryant deservedly gets the bump to AAA in the scenerio too).

Gausman, Harvey, Sisco, and Mike Yastrzemski for Samardzija and Christian Villanueva might get it done for me. Not that Jed and Theo take any of my calls. I'd still like the Rockies to top that.

I think the basic framework here is solid, and I doubt the Cubs could do better than getting Gausman and Harvey as the centerpieces of any Shark deal. But I certainly wouldn't throw in Villanueva if Yastrzemski was the 4th piece - Villanueva is certainly the better prospect between those two.

I threw Yaz out there because of the Red Sox and Vanderbilt connections. Just trying to pad it out.

I like Harvey better than Gausman, I think. Bundy, Harvey and Sisco would be a good haul.

Gausman is pretty much MLB ready, which is why I'd have to take him over Harvey.

But that package you listed is one I'd be happy with, nevertheless.

Being big league ready is only worth so much if you're an inferior prospect.

The Orioles were interested in Samardzija this winter and certainly haven’t lost that interest since the 29-year-old has posted the second-best ERA for a major league starter so far this season.

Here’s something else that will fuel the fire:

The Baltimore Sun has learned that one of the Cubs' top talent evaluators was in Low-A Delmarva this weekend to watch a few games, including one started by right-hander Hunter Harvey, the Orioles’ top pick from last year. This is not a guy who normally is assigned to the low-level minors, though it could be just routine coverage.

Still, that lends more credence to the report that the Cubs have interest in the Orioles' system.

The writer of that CBS report, Bruce Levine, suggests the two sides fit because the Orioles need help in the rotation to separate themselves in the American League East, they have pitching prospects, and the Cubs want young, controllable arms.

Levine, who is a good reporter and has been around for a long time, also suggests that the Orioles might want to make a preemptive strike before the competition for Samardzija’s services heats up heading into the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline.

And that makes sense, too. Executive vice president Dan Duquette did it last year with the Cubs, acquiring Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger for Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop on July 2. He also picked up Jim Thome from the Philadelphia Phillies on June 30, 2012.

I asked Duquette about striking when a deal works, regardless of the timing, and he said he’s never beholden to a specific deadline.

“We haven’t been. We made a trade over the weekend [for catcher Nick Hundley]. It’s about adding the needed pieces to our ballclub,” Duquette said. “We talk to teams all the time.”

So Duquette’s not necessarily going to wait until the end of July if he feels the Orioles can add an important piece now. We also know that this team’s window appears to be closing with so many key players able to leave by the end of 2015, and so a win-now mentality is certainly a possibility.

It would take a top-100 prospect FROM THE CUBS to make a Gonzalez-for-Samardzija swap fair, IMO. Samardzija has better peripherals, but is helped but facing 10% pitchers in the NL, which boosts his Ks. Gonzalez already has a better career ERA and is cheaper and under control for much longer.
