I remember Himes saying how we got two quality pitchers for the price of Maddux. I dont think that is what he believed but it was how he sold the lack of signing. I felt at the time that Maddux wanted to leave and the Cubs botching it kind of covered for him somewhat. Team was clearly very poorly run and a smart guy like Maddux could see that they were going nowhere.

How come Jeter gets a complete pass on PEDs? I am not accusing him as much as the evidence on him is just as compelling aws the evidence on some players that are being left out.

16 (16!!) writers left maddux off their ballot.

Enough of this secret ballot crap. These people need to be exposed and their voting rights need to be revoked.

Biggio and Piazza only players to go up in voting this year. Be just as crowded next year with Pedro, Big Unit, and Smoltz joining the ballot.

Morris is off the ballot next year, finally.

So Pedro and RJ are locks. Not sure if the writers will vote Smoltz first-ballot.

Sorry, this might be bad to admit as a Cubs fan, but I love Frank Thomas. Glad he made it in.

Frank Thomas was awesome. No need to be ashamed.

Ditto. I swear when he first came up, I would randomly flip to a Sox game and he would get a hit every single time I saw him. I remember counting he was 14-14 before I ever saw him make an out. I believe it went up to 23-26 when I stopped counting.

There was one blank vote submitted, and Bob Gurnink's ballot had only Morris on it. If both had simply abstained this year, Biggio is in.

To begin with, you voted for Greg Maddux, Frank Thomas, Tom Glavine, Mike Piazza, Craig Biggio, Edgar Martínez, Jeff Bagwell, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, and Curt Schilling. Well done, readers! Tim Raines, Mark McGwire, and Don Mattingly all came close, but couldn't quite crack the ballot; you can check the full results below.

And, happily, our failsafe voter did come through, and we can now reveal his identity: It's Dan Le Batard, the respected ESPNer and longtime Miami Herald columnist. Why did he agree to take part in this farce? Here's Dan to explain:

This is total [expletive]. If you submit a blank ballot with so many deserving players on the ballot, you forfeit your right to vote in the future.

Any they are all probably jumping at the opportunity to pat themselves on the back.

Secretly, as we'll likely never find out who any of them(other than Gurnick) are.

Other thoughts- I was a big fan of Frank too growing up. Very happy he got in. Sad for Biggio, he'll get in soon, but this sucked. The new guys getting put on the ballot will continue to make things murky and with the amount of deserving guys, it's going to be tedious. But they'll eventually find themselves in. (even Bonds and Clemens) Mussina getting 20% is a [expletive] joke. And anyone voting for the Joneses and Snows, etc of the world need to get punched right in the [expletive] repeatedly forever.

So, if you're a voter that votes for Mark Mcguire, why would you not vote for Sammy Sosa? I'm not arguing that they've been equal players, but if you are ok with Mcguire, clearly the PED issue doesn't preclude you from voting someone into the HoF. And given that, what is the case for Sammy to be excluded?

And yet there's a 16% gap.
