Jesus Christ, Shaughnessy.

I’ve been voting since 1986 and I truly miss the good old days when we argued about home runs, batting averages, ERAs, World Series performances, All-Star Games, and a player’s dominance at his position in his era. Things were so much simpler then. Saying yes to Ron Santo or no to Jim Kaat was a serious baseball debate. This was before PEDs and WAR and ALDS and Deadspin buying a Hall of Fame ballot. Now there is so much to consider, it makes one’s head explode.

i've been trying to decide if shaughnessy or clarence thomas is a bigger disgrace to my alma mater.

In what seems like a huge upset to me, Maddux is going into the HOF with no logo on his cap. That's gotta be a win for Cubs fans right?

http://baseballhall.org/news/press-releases/cap-selections-announced-hall-fame-plaques-class-2014-inductees

In conjunction with the Hall of Fame, the six members of the class of 2014 have made their selections for the logo inclusion on their Hall of Fame plaque: Bobby Cox – Atlanta; Tom Glavine – Atlanta; Tony La Russa – no logo; Greg Maddux – no logo; Frank Thomas – Chicago White Sox; and Joe Torre – New York Yankees.

As we know, the HOF can force a cap selection on a player, but ultimately the player gets to make their choice unless the HOF significantly disagrees with them. So either Maddux chose against going in with a Braves logo and the HOF upheld his decision, or Maddux chose a Braves logo and the HOF overruled him and gave him no logo. I'm guessing the former.

Edit: Dammit, beaten because I decided to make a long winded reply.

obviously i love the cubs, but it's pretty stupid for maddux not to be wearing a braves cap on his plaque

He spent just as many years as a Cub as he did a Brave.

Opinions are overrated anyway. That's how I've remained so forgettable my entire tenure here!

But his biggest, most successful years came in Atlanta.

“My wife Kathy and I grew up in baseball in Chicago, and then we had just an amazing experience in Atlanta with the Braves. It's impossible for me to choose one of those teams for my Hall of Fame plaque, as the fans of both clubs in each of those cities were so wonderful. I can't think of having my Hall of Fame induction without support of both of those fan bases, so, for that reason, the cap on my Hall of Fame plaque will not feature a logo.”

@craigcalcaterra: Tony La Russa will go in with a blank cap. Wait, no, he's signaling to the plaque maker, looks like he's going with the-- no, wait here he c

Nobody feared La Russa in the hideous green-and-yellow costumes of Oakland as he mechanically churned out American League power-hitting lineups. Despite the occasional screaming match, La Russa was just another boring manager playing baseball by the boring rules of the American League.

Yeah, those A's teams he had in the late 80's/early 90's were horse [expletive] man. One world series victory, two AL pennants, and 4 total playoff appearances? Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft

He scrambled the national league with his mind games.

The best line ever.
