I actually like the Ernie Johnson team on the TBS broadcasts. I've always thought he was underrated and Cal is much less of a stiff than usual.

You complain about 1 game series but want double headers in the playoffs?

Theo Epstein, Chicago Cubs' president of baseball operations, has a solution and it's perfect. Epstein's idea (as told by Bob Costas on "The Dan Patrick Show") goes like this:

-Make the Wild Card a best-of-three series.

-The fist two games of the series would be held on the same day at the home ballpark of the Wild Card team with the better record. One game would be in the afternoon and one game would be that night.

-If a third game is needed, it would be held the next day in the home ballpark of the lower seeded Wild Card team.

It's just his opinion, but it looks like I'm in good company.

\:D/ I would much prefer this.

I know it's just like, my opinion man, but that idea has some problems at first blush. Most doubleheaders are split, let alone the issues if there's extra innings. That also gives the team with lesser record the deciding game at home.

Wasn't 't Sonny Gray asking for 2.5 back when we took him late? If so , maybe we should have given it to him. For him to match Verlander tonight has been awesome to watch.

I haven't been watching every single pitch, but when I have, CB's been missing just about every call back there.

Nope. Probably far more; don't forget he had specifically asked teams to not pick him.

Pirates got boned Jay was out at third.

Definitely. Wish Alvarez had left the tag since Jay also clearly popped off the bag.

Goes without saying, but go Bucs.

Agreed, but isn't this setting up for a heartbreaking loss on a blown save for the Pirates in Game 4 followed by a 13-1 win by the Cards in Game 5?

Why is Don Mattingly starting Clayton Kershaw on short rest, up 2-1?

Probably so he can theoretically pitch prior to game 3 in the NLCS. Obviously he would pitch game 5 if necessary, then he'd be out for game 1 and 2.

I have no idea and it sounds stupid but maybe because he'd rather have his best pitcher pitching at home, in a pitcher's park at night (where pitchers tend to fare better at Dodger Stadium)?

I know my explanation doesn't make sense, I was just trying to think of some way that it would even begin to be justified.

If the Pirates wrap up the other NLDS today, and the Dodgers win tonight, Kershaw wouldn't be available on regular rest until probably game 3, meaning he'd start game 3 and 7 instead of 1, 4 and 7. Yeah doesn't make sense.

Is the game 1 start date of the LCS fluid, or is it set no matter the outcome of the LDS series?

Seems like a lot of risk(3 days rest after 124 pitches) just to make sure he pitches games 2 and 5 instead of 3 and 6/7 (Game 6 would be 3 days rest).
