i wish there was no hall of fame, and players just disappeared after they retired. i can't think of anything in baseball more boring than hall of fame discussions. don't these guys already get enough attention/praise anyways?

i feel like this whole thing is just so MLB can get the Yankees out from under ARod's contract.

I have an inkling you might be right. That may not be their primary motivation, but it's definitely one of the deciding factors.

Also, reports are that A-Rod is going to dig in his heels and not accept any sort of plea deal, and will appeal any suspension.

The standoff begins.

LOL, good luck with that ARod.

Yeah, let's have a baseball hall of fame without Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez

Doesn't bother me one bit.

Me either. Just why exactly is ARod so worthy of the HoF after being caught using PEDs numerous times now?

Because he was better than anybody else for a long time.

They don't work like that, but it's adorable that you think they do.

Please inform us how they work.

Well, the old timers, like Aaron and Mays (and the hundreds of other guys from the 50s to the 80s that used them), used them because the PEDs allowed them to be able to play at the same level all season, even during the dog days when it was 85 and humid at night. They kept the players bodies from wearing down during the season.

I'd assume the new guys, A-Rod, McGwire (and the hundreds other guys from the 90's and 00's that used them), used them for the same reasons.

Hrm... so what you could say is that the drugs enhanced the performance.

Very interesting.

PED's don't magically make players good or great. It's like some people see the relative few that used them to Hulk the [expletive] out as meaning having big muscles suddenly makes you an amazing hitter.

Hrm burp ha that's totally the same thing as amazingly making a player good.

That's kind of the definition of Performance Enhancing Drugs. And yes, they've been providing MLB an exciting performance boost since 1946.

No, but they allow players to be better for longer, letting them work out harder and more frequently, and also helping them with endurance.

And no, they don't magically make a player a great hitter, but it stands to reason that big muscles = can hit the ball further, therefore more XBH, correct? Yes, the player still needs to make contact and I agree that PED's don't help with that.

They more or less sustain a players performance rather than enhance it. If you take a ton of PED's you all of the sudden aren't going to be able to hit a breaking ball better if you couldn't before or be able to recognize pitches faster. If Darwin Barney all of the sudden went on a PED regimine the next two years it's not like he'd turn into Bonds v2.0 in 2015

Not necessarily. What they do is allow that guy to not lose as much because of wear and tear, as you said, recoverability. They can help you get stronger, yes, but keep in mind, some of the best HR hitters ever were kind of scrawny looking guys (Ted Williams???) who didn't do any weight lifting at all.

PED's don't make you a once in a generation baseball talent

Tell that to Bonds who only became once in a generation after he took them. PED's made multiple once in a generation players (Bonds, Sosa, ARod). None of those guys would have been that good without them. Bonds and ARod were going to be clean HOFers, but we'll never know for sure. I think the price for keeping your PED enhanced stats is not getting into the HOF. They are part of the narrative of the steroid era, but the damage they did to the game is not HOF worthy.

Holy smokes are you comically wrong about this.
