If true, count me in as liking Jim Deshaies as the best of the remaining bunch, then Karros.

I know absolutely nothing about him.

Would be nice to hear what smart Astros fans think of him.

FanGraphs

4. Houston Astros

Broadcasters: Bill Brown and Jim Deshaies

Ratings (Charisma/Analysis/Overall): 4.3, 4.1, 4.2

Three Reader Comments

• “FanGraphs and other analytical blogs have been mentioned on the broadcast before. While the team may suck the Houston fan base is lucky to have such a good broadcasting crew to get through the season.”

• “We, as Astros fans, are lucky to have these guys. They can be quite funny and informative at times. Maybe not the sharpest at play by play, but very entertaining.”

• “They are the only reason I will watch the Astros lose over 100 games again this coming season.”

Notes

There won’t have been any particularly compelling reasons for non-fans to have sought out Astro games of late, so the reader is excused if he hasn’t seen this broadcast team at work. Note, however, that the comments for Brown and (especially) Deshaies are almost uniformly gushing.

I like.

Best part of that is that the one negative they list has to do with play by play. We'd be pairing our strength with their strength.

Isn't Kasper's strength his willingness to explore the world of modern statistics?

That's a really big strength.

And his strength is everything, because he's awesome.

Between Len and Pat, we really have two of the best PBP guys in the business.

As mentioned in transactions, we've reached the part of the offseason where Stockholm Syndrome takes over and I start to squint really hard so that the next season kind of looks OK.

If we quit screwing around with the bench, get some development in the bullpen, and make a half-hearted attempt to put useful players in at CF, 3b and No. 4 starter, I'm starting to see a .500 team.

Soriano/???/DeJesus (Sappelt/Campana)

Valbuena/Castro/Barney/Rizzo (LaHair/???)

Castillo (Navarro)

Samardzija/Garza/Baker/???/Wood (Vizcaino)

Marmol/Camp/Bowden/Dolis/Iowa Conga Line

I kind of don't hate everything about that team. 78 wins with a slim chance of making things interesting enough in the WC race that we don't spazsell everything in July.

Sure, but what does that do about our vacant color analyst position?

Umm cool....the next color guy should really enjoy working for this interesting team.

Just announced: It's Deshaies!

Wow, the best possible outcome! Score one for the Cubs.

I saw earlier DeRo still wants to play, plus he's an unknown on this side of things. Getting DeShaies is awesome. A legit upgrade.

Excellent! Now to get a team worthy of the booth.
