So Danny Knobler was the one that tweeted this, but Jesse Rogers just tweeted that there's been no confirmation yet.

That's about par for the course given our recent transaction history

Muskat and someone from MLB.com confirmed it as well. Rogers just clarified that the team itself hasn't announced it yet is all.

I get all those team confirmations and haven't received anything on this or Fujikawa yet. I'll post them when I get them.

Man all the tweets from sad Astros fans are making me feel pretty damn good about this. Also he has apparently been known to quote Curb. Can't wait.

RT @PWSullivan: Deshaies' friends say Len Kasper pushed hard on Deshaies hiring. #Clout

Deshaies' Cubs deal is for four years. Astros counter-offered. Source said counter-offer was very fair for market value.

Not that I want to take the focus of this thread away from the Deshaies hiring, but I never understood why Brenley wasn't brought back. Anyone know why?

I'm pretty sure they wanted to keep Bob, but he decided to move on.

He chose to leave.

Some say he just wanted to go to AZ, others have said he wanted more money from the Cubs.

Either way, this couldn't have worked out better. Deshaies is an upgrade.

Comments from Deshaies:

"It was a very tough choice," Deshaies said of leaving the Astros' booth. "The Astros have been very good to me and I've spent the lion's share of my life here. As an Astros guy, I was very hesitant to leave. As a baseball guy, going to the Cubs and watching games at Wrigley Field, I look at that job as the best in the game."

A spokesman for WGN-TV, which was interviewing candidates, had no comment. There also was no comment from the Cubs, who have final say on the decision.Cubs owner Laura Ricketts smiled when asked about the news in the hotel lobby at the winter meetings, offering a "no comment."

But Deshaies said a press conference will be held in Chicago, possibly on Wednesday.

"It's inteteresting," he said. "I read a lot about Bob, and it's kind of what I do. I try and have fun and entretain at the same time. I treat it like a group of people hanging out in the living room together. I don't want to be that guy where they're changing the channel and saying 'You're driving me nuts.' But maybe when it's 9-2 or something like that they'll say 'Hey, let's stay tuned and maybe he'll make us laugh. I don't think I'm that unique."

The pressure of replacing a popular figure like Brenly is not lost on Deshaies.

"Any time you take a new job it's a challenge," he said. "I know the fans are going to have to get to know me. I know there's going to be a little pressure, but I feel very comfortable and am looking forward to it."

But Deshaies said a press conference will be held in Chicago, possibly on Wednesday.

While Cubs business president Crane Kenney made the final call, Kasper was instrumental in pushing for Deshaies, a source said. Deshaies spent an inning in the Cubs booth with Kasper and Brenly near the end of the season.

Kasper had no comment.

He's really great. That team is funny, smart, and seem to be really level-headed. I think him and Len will be amazing together.

WGN-TV AND CHICAGO CUBS AGREE TO FOUR-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH JIM DESHAIES TO BECOME TELEVISION ANALYST FOR CHICAGO CUBS GAME BROADCASTS

DESHAIES JOINS THE CUBS BROADCAST TEAM AFTER SPENDING 16 SEASONS

WITH THE HOUSTON ASTROS

CHICAGO, December 3, 2012 – WGN-TV and the Chicago Cubs are pleased to announce former Houston Astros broadcaster Jim Deshaies has agreed to a four-year agreement to join Len Kasper in the booth as the television analyst for Chicago Cubs game broadcasts on WGN-TV, Comcast SportsNet and WCIU-TV.

Deshaies, a former pitcher who spent most of his career with the Astros, joins the Cubs broadcast team after serving as an analyst for Houston since 1997.

“After spending the last 16 seasons with the Houston Astros, it will be a very tough organization and fan base to leave. However, I can’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather move than with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field,” said Deshaies. “My family and I look forward to meeting the great, passionate fans of the Cubs and we’re excited at what lies ahead in Chicago.”

“We’re very fortunate, along with our fan base, to welcome Jim as the next television analyst of the Chicago Cubs,” said Crane Kenney, president of business operations, Chicago Cubs. “Jim expressed an incredible appreciation for Cubs baseball, the history of Wrigley Field, the strength of our fan base, his predecessors in the broadcast booth and opportunity to carry the tradition forward. He is a student of the game who incorporates his firsthand knowledge, stories and humor into the broadcast, and we’re excited to see him in the booth with Len.”

“We look forward to sharing Jim’s knowledge and experience with Cubs fans across the country on WGN and in Chicago on Comcast. We know Len and Jim will have a great partnership in the broadcast booth,” said Steve Farber, acting general manager, WGN-TV.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Jim to our Cubs telecast team beginning in 2013,” said James J. Corno, president of Comcast SportsNet Chicago. “He and Len will make a terrific on-air duo Cubs fans will embrace for years to come.”

While Cubs business president Crane Kenney made the final call

Clown Kenney ruins everything. We could have had Steve Stone back, the smartest analyst in baseball, but Kenney had to intercede for his crony Deshaies.
