Shohei Otani during his age 20/21 seasons (so far):

79.1 IP / 41 H / 99 Ks / 22 BBs / 0 HRs

Also has hit 3 HRs

Fujinami is good too, but the Otani hype is going to be insane.

Oh, that is who you are...

Can we not overreact to something that didn't happen? Don't we do that enough in this world? ...and then when [expletive] does happen we overreact even worse. Don't worry - if something negative in this world happens involving an athlete - ESPN will not only cover it, they will make sure anyone involved becomes just a step below Bin Laden. So, please for the sake of knowing when [expletive] does actually happen - we will overreact plenty, when [expletive] could have happened, just stfu and be happy it didn't.

Bringing an infant to a game (or a movie, or an amusement park, or.....) seems like more trouble than it's worth

It is actually pretty easy to enjoy a game with an infant in tow. A 2 year old is another story.

My 2 year old loves baseball. He got mad when we left the last game in the 8th inning. He sits there, intently watching. Claps appropriately, sulks appropriately. It's quite amusing.

If you could pick one statistic to lead the league in what would it be? Cannot pick W/L or runs or RBI.

What if it had to be an offensive statistic?

What if it had to be a pitching/defensive statistic?

Whatever the best correlated metric is to team wins. Team WAR?

SLG for and against would be my guess.

I was thinking along the same lines with wOBA for and against. Not sure if I'd rather have that or WAR.

I'll use the loophole and say OPS for and against.

There were some terrible July 4 uniforms on Saturday but the worst were the Giants (blue), the A's (blue) and the Pirates (red). The White Sox (red) and the Cubs red hats weren't far behind.

Buccaneers cornerback C.J. Wilson blew off two of his fingers over 4th of July weekend. Naturally C.J. Wilson, pitcher, is getting bombarded with folks asking about his ability to pitch on Twitter.

The A's pythag luck is miserable

Not only do they have a positive run differential for a team 9 games under .500, they actually 'should' be 11 games over .500. Astonishing.

I was browsing Baseball Reference and while looking at the Cubs pitching staff I saw Kyle Hendricks, with a 3.81 ERA, is rated at 98 on ERA+, which says so much about the run environment in baseball these days. Like, just a mere 5-6 years ago, that ERA would be more than respectable, heck, qualifies you fo a solidly above average pitcher.

Bring back steroids is my IMO, IMO.

on a related note, the Cardinals [expletive] team ERA is 2.63

I asked about it in the GDT Wednesday, but seriously, I don't think any of Lackey, Wacha or Martinez ever [expletive] give up more than 2 runs in a start, and Lynn rarely does either. It's impossible.
