There is a baseball team in the NBC called the Bee Jays.

Not just any Bee Jays, but Liberal Bee Jays

with a terribly tragic storyline

That's got to be one of the most depressing and tragic things I've ever heard. Not that it was anything more than a random freak accident, but whoever was taking that practice swing has to be taking it hard.

The Oakland A's *still* have a positive run differential (+31 runs) and are 13 games under .500. Their Pythagorean is better than the Cubs.

Beane going for it last year was pretty much the right move and they are ~20 games under .500 since then. Baseball, man.

Then again, trading Addison Russell for 3 months of Hammel/Samardzija and the Marcus Semien pu-pu platter from the White Sox after the year and bailing on apparent Hall-of-Famer Josh Donaldson are their own fault.

I don't doubt Jackson was professional and helpful to the young guys, but you sure do seem to hear a lot more about it when the player in question is [expletive] terrible at actually playing baseball.

I liked that he didnt act like Hawkins at least.

What does one have to do with the other?

They both sucked.

Dave Dombrowski out with Tigers. Details to follow.

DETROIT -- Dave Dombrowski is no longer employed by the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers announced in a press release today that Al Avila has been promoted to the role of executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager.

Dombrowski has been released from his contract.

"I would like to thank Dave Dombrowski for his 14 years of service," owner Mike Ilitch said in the release. "Together we've enjoyed some success, but we're still in aggressive pursuit of our ultimate goal: to bring a World Series title to Detroit and Michigan. I've decided to release Dave from his contract in order to afford him the time to pursue other career opportunities. I feel this is the right time for the Tigers to move forward under new leadership."

Avila has been part of the Tigers organization since 2002.

"I'm very excited for this opportunity and honored and grateful to Mr. Ilitch for having the faith and trust in me to run the ballclub in our continuing pursuit of a World Series championship," Avila said in the release. "After 24 years in professional baseball and 14 with the Detroit Tigers, I believe I'm uniquely qualified to be successful in this role in leading this organization. We're confident we can make a strong push to win this year, and that we have the foundation in place to win next year and for years to come."

IMO, "going for it" for me wouldn't have involved trading one of my best hitters when the team wasn't particularly strong at hitting. I thought it was a weird move at the time.

Currently, only the NL Central has no team, .500 or over, with a losing record at home or on the road.

Very random.

WS winner from NL central this year!

Major League Baseball’s media division has announced a six-year deal with the NHL, under which MLB Advanced Media will take over the hockey league’s TV broadcasting and Internet-streaming operations.

Under the terms of the pact, MLBAM will pay the NHL about $100 million per year for the rights to distribute the league’s out-of-market telecasts, including the NHL GameCenter Live and NHL Center Ice subscriptions services, in the U.S. and certain international markets. The NHL will receive an equity stake in MLBAM of between 7% and 10%.

Confused as to why Baseball Tonight has females analysts breaking down swings. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Rays minor leaguer who is currently hitting 229/299/260 across two levels. Maybe he could use some advice from said female analysts.

Also he deleted his account.
