I remember hearing about studies by someone (tangotiger?) saying it wasn't a bad idea.

Yeah. He said basically the loss you get from having more PAs from a worse hitter are roughly balanced out by having a better hitter interact with the top of the lineup. He had it at +2 runs a year, but basically it's so close as to be indeterminable.

Was there any benefit determined from gaining extra PH opportunities in which a manager can play matchups? Kind of goes against the other part because if your 9 hitter is good enough to improve interaction with the top of your order, you'd think he also would be better than the available PH, pool but that's the only other factor I could see in play.

I was just doing some random baseball stat checking....why is Phil Niekro in the HOF?

Longevity.

And he pitched multiple 300 inning seasons while getting elected during an era when all the old timers realized nobody was going to do that anymore.

Plus his name sounds like negro and the old racist writers couldn't resist.

i wonder what the split is between coors and the road. I could probably look it up it up but I'm slightly drunk and contently listening to Neko Case.

Home: .355/.401/.600 .373 BABIP

Away: .254/.403/.705 .296 BABIP

I think 300 wins/3000 Ks probably is going to get you in no matter what. Not agreeing just saying. Without looking my guess is Don Sutton's career does not look very Hall of Famish except for 300 wins

Odor called up

It's sad that I have to hope he does poorly otherwise various people are going to go on and on about how he would have been a Cub if Theo didn't wait too long and let Garza get hurt.

I hope he does poorly so I can say that he stinks.

Was he legitimately on the table? Seems hard to believe given he was only 18 at the time.

Yeah, that's wrong.

Eta: Unless he was listing the time period he was talking about and not the whole season.

For the year it's:

Home: .355/.401/.600

Away: .264/.309/.417

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed that he was on the table last year as the final piece until the Rangers saw issues with Garza's shoulder and it instead became Olt. I believe ABTY also said Odor and Perez were both parts of the 2012 package that was just about done before Garza got hurt.
