I'm more confused by how they would fit Steve Nash in money-wise.

It requires a TON of begging and hoping he's a ring chaser, basically. BTW, I wouldn't think it's an either/or situation when it comes to the PG's and Young/Delfino. I think it's probably a situation where they'd like to add both. Again, by begging and playing up the "we're a contender" card. Personally, I don't see it working, but I guess I'm glad they're going to try.

I think they can sign and trade the unguaranteed contracts for him, can't they? Then the Suns would be able to just drop them.

You lost me.

He's saying that the Suns could do a sign and trade with the Bulls for Nash for something like Brewer+Watson+first round pick. That allows Nash to get an 8 million a year contract, and then if the contracts stay unguaranteed the Suns could drop Brewer and Watson with no penalty. So Nash gets his money, the Suns get a first round pick out of the deal, and the Bulls get their player without losing anybody they were going to keep.

The problem is the Suns would probably demand the Charlotte pick in that scenario.

That's the only sort of scenario where I see the Bulls having a chance for Nash though. There are contenders that can give him playing time but not money (Miami, OKC). There are fringe contenders that can give him both (Indiana, Portland?). He could decide to stay with that amazing training staff in Phoenix. The Bulls are kind of stuck in between some of those groups. The playing time picture is cloudy, the money without a sign and trade isn't that great, and they probably can't be considered quite as good of contenders as teams like Miami or OKC.

Edit: If it's just Korver that could be traded that way it becomes harder. The Suns would actually have to value Brewer or Watson in that scenario to want to keep them (of course if they got the Charlotte pick they'd probably be ok taking on excess expiring contracts).

With the Bobcats losing out on the #1 pick and Davis this year, that pick is becoming more and more valuable. What year is it that it is completely unprotected 2014? or 2015?

I don't think there's a difference between getting Davis and the #2 pick unless you do something stupid like draft Thomas Robinson, which the Bobcats certainly will do.

2013 - Top 12 protected

2014 - Top 10 protected

2015 - Top 8 protected

2016 - Unprotected

As a reference point, here are the records of the teams that finished with the 8th, 10th and 12th pick this year.

12. Milwaukee - 31-35 (39-43 in 82 game season)

10. Minnesota - 26-40 (32-50 in 82 game season)

8. Toronto - 23-43 (29-53 in 82 game season)

So if you keep that pick you have to gamble that the Bobcats will be on average a sub-30 win team for 5 consecutive years (this year and the next 4) and then you still have to deal with the draft lottery odds to see if you will get a top 3 pick out of it. If you look at the last 5 years in the NBA, only 1 team hasn't won 30 games in any of the last 5 seasons, and that was Minnesota who would have won 30 this year if A) it was a regular 82 game season or B) Rubio and Love didn't get hurt.

I think it makes sense to hold onto the pick for another offseason, maybe 2 more offseasons depending on how the Bobcats do this year, and then trade while the value is likely at its highest.

No need to be confused. Unless the Bulls are planning on dumping a combo of Deng, Boozer or Noah, it's not happening. Too far over the cap, and the ridiculous luxury tax goes into effect soon.

Not sure what kind of salary they'd command, but if either were crazy enough to take a 1-year deal, it might be worth a look.

A 16 year vet in the NBA has already made all the money he wants. I think he'll just sign with the team that wants him and has the best shot at a championship.

That's really not how it works.

It is if he wants a championship bad enough.

Much as I hate to agree with SSR, he has a point: if Nash doesn't care about money and the Heat wanted his services, for example....

...he'd just go to the Heat. They'll be full strength (assuming Bosh comes back and no further injuries) all year with no need to work a superstar back in.

Nash to the Bulls would need a little help. Other options shut down for some reason, Nash deciding there's some reason he really wants to play here, etc.

Maybe it happens. They should definitely try any and all options. I won't hold my breath.

This upcoming year is a lost season either way you cut it.

I'd almost rather Derrick just sit out and be 100% then to rush back early and log heavy playoff minutes.

Posted

that would be dumb. once he's physically healthy, extra rest will do nothing. why let him sit out when he's healthy? so he's even more removed from his last nba game when the 2014-2015 season starts?

if we want derrick rose to truly be "back" the season after next, then it's important that he gets some games under his legs next season.

I like this post.

"Weird how irritated or angry some of you are, even when your team is doing well. Me, I have my White Russian and my good friend, Liz. Listening to Miles Davis. Her Siberian Husky just threw up and she was in convulsions laughing at him. Earlier we were walking around, pointing out different strangers, guessing what they sounded like during sex."

North Carolina small forward Harrison Barnes, projected in most mock drafts as a high lottery pick, said he met with Chicago Bulls management on Thursday at the NBA predraft camp.

The Bulls own only the 29th pick in this year's draft, so any chance to draft Barnes would necessitate a trade. That Barnes plays the same position as Luol Deng raises eyebrows, particularly in an offseason in which Deng has said he will play in the London Olympics with a torn ligament in his left wrist.

Deng has two years and $27.6 million remaining on his contract. Barnes measured 6 feet, 7 inches without shoes and weighed just under 228 pounds in his official predraft camp measurements.

There have been reports that Golden State is trying to use their picks to acquire a high level wing player. Deng was on that list. Could the Bulls even be somewhat considering it? I doubt anything comes of it, but that's a really interesting news tidbit.

It's especially interesting because of how much Thibs has called Deng a "glue guy". It makes me wonder if they're really concerned about the long term effects of his wrist injury.

Trading Deng is punting the season.

They'd make the playoffs.

Also, who knows what they could do with that salary or even the combined cap space if they traded him and amnestied Booz.

It better be something great if you're opening the year with Noah, Barnes and trash supporting him/them.
