ALL IS WELL

ESPNChicago.com reported Tuesday that Rose traveled to Alabama to consult with famed surgeon Dr. James Andrews. But Cole, the head team physician for the Bulls, noted that it was actually a therapist in Andrews' office with whom Rose is working. Cole said the trip to Alabama had been scheduled before Rose's surgery. Andrews was not in the office nor will he meet with the 23-year-old All-Star, Cole said.

"Derrick is ahead of schedule," Cole said in a phone conversation Wednesday night. "This was part of the plan established before surgery. This was not a consultation with another physician, but rather it's working with another therapist in collaboration with the Bulls' training staff."

Cole also brushed aside speculation that Rose has had a setback in the process.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," Cole said. "He's ahead of schedule. [The rehab] is a way to keep things fresh for Derrick, to help give him some variety."

According to Wilbon and his sources, the recovery for Rose is not going well.

Uhhhhh

The rehabilitation is going well, according to a source.

Listen to the Waddle and Silvy interview. Speculation is that why on Earth would Rose go to Andrews in the first place if everything has been successful? It does raise red flags.

Yeah I can't think of any reason why anyone, and certainly not a star athlete, would go back to the doctor after having major surgery.

I think the cause for panic was because Andrews isn't the one that did the surgery, it may have looked like he was going to the expert sports surgeon after it looks like the dumb locals screwed it up/weren't sure what was going on.

I think its reading quite a bit into it to try to draw something negative or positive from an elite athlete seeing some of the most highly regarded medical professionals in sports. Why take anything for granted on this rehab?

Luol Deng trade rumors: to Golden State for the #7 pick?

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bulls/post/_/id/9282/luol-deng-not-dismissing-rumors

Well, a little while back Luol was supposed to be the horrible contract that nobody would take for free. I guess the #7 in a weak draft is an improvement from that, and would free up some money. I still find this rumor surprising, though.

I haven't paid any attention to the draft this year. Who is likely available at #7?

No one all that good. Possibly Harrison Barnes, Damian Lillard, or Andre Drummond, probably Jeremy Lamb. Really not a very good spot for the Bulls to trade into, especially with Deng as the price tag.

Agreed. I guess you'd hope Beal or Kidd-Gilchrist falls but I just don't see it.

The only way I can see it making sense is if the Bulls really like Barnes and Drummond and can count on one of them falling(if not one of Beal/MKG). Lillard is a poor match for the Bulls, Lamb doesn't have the upside you'd want to trade Deng away for a draftee, and the guys behind them aren't better. Personally, I could maybe see that evaluation for Barnes(he is talented, and the Bulls did take a look at him), but picking Drummond is just setting money on fire.

But SSR has been telling me that Deng has negative value for a long time now.

It's a risky play for the Bulls to send Deng out, but here's what they could be thinking. With Rose out and the Bulls having to cut salary to get under the luxury tax, they might be considering this year as basically a lost one. Trading Deng will get the Bulls under the luxury tax for this year plus get a top 10 pick (I don't see how a GS deal would work because they don't have the cap space and not many good contracts, but a Toronto deal for #8 might work better for either space or for Calderon as a placeholder for this year).

So the Bulls get a huge trade exception they can use if they want to add salary during the year. If they don't find a deal to their liking, they can amnesty Boozer and have a large amount of cap space next offseason. With Deng's salary gone and Boozer, Hamilton, Korver, Brewer, and Watson's salaries possibly coming off next year, the Bulls could have 18-20 million in cap space (will have around 30 million committed+Gibson's cap hold+cap hold for next year's pick+roster charges for all the unused spots). So they could make a run after another max player next offseason.

If it all works out, by next year you have a Deng level player or better to pair with Rose and a top 10 pick added on as well. The main question becomes if the Bulls think a Rose/Deng/Noah core is the one they want (since those 3 combined take up 70% of the cap by themselves) or if they want to take this chance to remake the roster a bit.

Like a year and a half ago when you guys were trying to trade him straight up for Melo?

Cleveland is supposedly trying to move up to #2 to draft Beal, so he's almost guaranteed to be gone long before #7

The rumor on the Bulls board at RealGM has it that we've offered Deng and 29 to the Warriors for Biedrins, Wright, and 7. I think the rumor comes from a paper in Great Britain. At any rate, that's a stupid deal. Biedrins is flat out awful, has 2 years and over 20 mill left on his deal. Wright is average and is making close to 4 mill in the last year of his contract. Couple that with 7 being a spot where there doesn't appear to be a clear cut guy we're looking at, and this just doesn't make sense. No cap relief? Yuck.

I just want to forget the Bulls exist until Rose is back. Any way we can delete this thread, and then delete them from my mind until next February?

I'm not opposed to trading Deng in the right scenario, but I just don't see how it works out for the Bulls with GS.

I've heard that Paxson is pissed that Deng didn't have his surgery sooner and still wants to play for GB in the Olympics. I see both sides, but to play for your adopted home country is a once in a lifetime dream.

Next year will be tough for the Bulls to make the playoffs. Pax hasn't addressed what the team has needed for years, an inside scoring threat. Don't know what the draft will bring, but unless you get another scorer they will struggle to score.
