I refuse to read the game thread.

Rationally, I realize this is a really good team that ran into awful luck in the playoffs.

At the moment, however, it feels like this team needs to get massively reconstructed to reach the next level.

Awful luck? Or just an incredibly short-sighted NBA/Player's union, not thinking about what a condensed season might do?

I think I'm in favor of a pure tank

1) Make Rose sit out the entire year for pro cation

2)Amnesty Boozer, and decline the options on CJ, Brewer and Korver

3) Fill out your roster by buying one or two late 1st round picks

Is a pro cation when you get to earn millions of dollars to sit on a beach?

Lamar Odom is on a pro cation.

Carlos Boozer is going to be with this team next year. I don't blame Jerry Reinsdorf for not getting rid of him either and I think he's one of the cheapest owner in sports.

I'm gonna have faith.

We'll be back full strength next year, the injuries won't happen like this because it will be, well, an ACTUAL SEASON.

And we will show up in the conference finals.

Deng could be out to December, Rose out till January. And who knows the type of player Derrick will be when he comes back. Chris Paul took an entire year to get back to himself.

So we peak at the right time. No biggie.

Does anyone know if the a team can trade for a player and then amnesty him? I thinkt he Bulls could get some wiggle room if they were to trade Boozer for an expiring contract and a lesser albatross type contract to amnesty.

I preface this by saying there's no way the Bulls will amnesty Boozer, nor should they. If they amnesty him, the Bulls might get under the soft cap, but it won't be by much. Also, I don't think Reinsdorf is going to be keen on paying Boozer $50M to do nothing.

If they were to maybe trade with Golden State, take on Biedrins/Dorrell Wright and amnesty Biedrins, I think they could have a nice piece in Wright while taking a bit off of the salary obligations going forward. Taj could move into the starting line up at that point. Only problem here is Boozer isn't a good fit for Golden State with Lee and Bogut in the mix.

Same could concievably be done with Sacremento and Chuck Hayes/Francisco Garcia. I'm not quite as big a fan of Garcia though as I am Wright obviously.

I would be fine with holding on to Boozer personally. It sucks that pretty much every defensive breakdown involves him, but the guy is under appreciated for the easy scoring he can provide. I'm just looking to be creative with this roster because... there's not much else to think about sports wise right now.

l'm 95% sure no. I believe the contract had to be with the team, prior to the new CBA being ratified.

The real issue is we've got a bunch of players much more valuable to us, than they would be on the trade market. Plus, this new CBA sucks bigtime, in limiting what a team can do to add anything. It's going to be the rich and the poor when it comes to FA. The top guys will get their max deals, but everyone else probably just saw their salaries get cut by half or so, when all is said and done. The penalties for going over the luxury tax thresholds are insane. And if Cuban wouldn't ante up to keep Chandler because of it, I seriously doubt other owners would either.

I think Howard ultimately signs longterm with Orlando. Deron's going to head out of Brooklyn or Jersey or wherever he's at, go to Dallas probably, and they won't have anything of value to trade for Dwight.(they'll keep Dirk)

So the Bobcats pick. It's unprotected in 2016, and the Bobcats should be terrible for as long as Jordan owns the team. The problem is, a #1 in 2016 is too late for this roster. It'd be nice to have an instant rebuild in 2016, but what kind of shape is Rose going to be in by that point if he keeps playing the type of style he does now? Is anyone else from the current roster still going to be around?

Basically I'm asking how long do you have to wait before the 2016 pick is valuable enough to trade away for a present day piece. If you have to wait until the '14-'15 season, then yeah don't bother, but if other teams realize how miserable Charlotte's franchise is, you've gotta dump that pick and go for it now before Rose disintegrates.

I think you have to call Mirotic over from Real Madrid and find out if he's a real player or just another Euro guy who can't play in the league. If he's real, maybe that extends the championship window and you can afford to sit on that pick, but either way, we need to find out sooner than later.

The problem with getting Mirotic over, aside from his buyout, is that if the Bulls were to sign him today, they would be bound the CBA slottled rule system for draft choices. So the Bulls could only offer a contract that I'm sure is much much less than he is making for Real Madrid. I believe 2014, or so, is when the restriction expires and the Bulls can offer more of a MLE type deal to him.

I think it's best to patch the team together for next year. It's going to be asking an awful lot to have Rose play at 100% by next year's playoffs, so I don't think it's an "all-in" type season.

Have Deng get his surgery, give Butler a ton of minutes and see if he can develop into something. Grab either a young vet point guard or a draftee with development potential and try to groom a cheap, long term back up for Rose. When the playoffs come around, do the best you can and maybe surprise some folks.

That's all I'm looking for out of next season. 2013-2014 you add Mirotic and hopefully he becomes an elite player. After that, you start thinking of cashing in on the Bobcats pick as it will only be top 10 protected in 2014 draft. Top 8 protected in 2015, and unprotected by 2016.

I think this team is set up for a wide window where the team can stay amongst the elite by reloading rather than rebuilding. But we may have to be a little patient and keep expectations low going into next season (sound familiar?).
