This is so Cub-like.

Hopefully the true story comes out, but I doubt it does. People will just have to speculate on how all this went down. I want to give the FO the benefit of the doubt, but if they are the ones that whiffed on this, it would definitely not be good....

So where are Theo and Jed? One of the beat writers said they're not in Pittsburgh, and Randy Bush has been the guy talking to the press. Anybody know?

And if the physical shows he's not healthy it gets voided. He currently has a non-injury, I think you're overreacting a bit. Trading Garza is still a very real possibility. Maybe not to the Braves, but he can still be moved. The extra year of control still holds value.

Yeah, he can be traded. But you'd be an idiot to offer up top notch prospects for him while he's injured in the middle of a down year. If the Cubs can't get top prospects for him they shouldn't trade him. It's not about whether or not they can move him, it's whether or not they can get top value in return. Short of top value there is no reason to move him.

My concern isn't just trading Garza, it's getting top value for him. I'm sure someone will still take Garza off our hands, but will we still get elite type prospects for him after a down year and with a (slight) injury lingering? I tend to doubt it.

I understand that, but a month ago we were talking about trading him for guys like Castellanos and Turner, or Lee and Eovaldi, and other clubs top prospects, etc. The only thing that has changed since then is he was removed for a tricep cramp, his performance remained consistent with the rest of the year, and now he's untradeable for guys like that? I find that hard to believe.

I'm guessing back in Chicago riding the train with Jenny D and some chick named Simone.

Ron Santo?

Oh wait no, that was God not the fans.

Strangely enough Ron Santo did receive death threats as a player. One of the two documented threats was from a Mets fan though

I have no reason to believe it didn't play out exactly the way Wren said it did...

``In his case, from my understanding - and I'm only getting it second hand from the Cubs - they had a meeting with him a couple weeks ago and laid it out, and the primary two suitors were us and the Dodgers. And he had positive things to say about both, and he had a slight preference to the Dodgers because of Ted Lilly. He and Ted Lilly are best of friends and he'd like to go play with his friend. And I think there were also some personal issues that suited better for him. And as it went down, from my understanding, the Cubs informed him in the last week that the Dodgers weren't really as aggressive as we were and they thought the deal was going to go with us. I think he was given a heads up along the way. I think it may be the way it was presented as far as coming out in the media [Monday]. I think that was blindsiding, not that he necessarily didn't know this was coming down.''

The Braves trade didn't "blindside" anyone. Even for people loosely following trade rumors from the outside looking in, they've been speculated as a landing spot for weeks.

I'm sure Theo is still hanging out at his old Fenway Park office throwing a football around with his bros.

In the offseason we were hoping for the same stuff. He took a step back this year and is currently unsure when he'll pitch again.

I don't think it really is all that uncommon for FO guys to not travel with the team during the regular season on road trips. They probably do once in a while but for the most part I think they stay at their hometown offices.

I hope this is how it happened, because then it would all fall rightfully on Dempster.

So, Dempster wasted the FO's time basically?

and leverage. Don't forget the wasted leverage.

And for the first time ever, I believe, I'm definitely in agreeance with Jersey on Garza: If I'm a GM, no way do I give up a haul for a guy who hasn't pitched since his "injury". Too close to the elbow to take a huge risk on. May be different if he were pitching better throughout the year.

But the important thing to remember here is that he's the victim of teh twitterz.

Did Ryan Dempster get the Gatorade cooler's consent before throwing it? Looks like he blindsided it.
