So will Kaplan treat Dempster about this like he did Aramis last year? Or let it slide this time?

Yesterday on CTL he said Dempster has every right to veto a trade and he couldn't understand why anybody was remotely upset about it.

Amazing, he's right. But, Aramis did as well. Hard for Dave to understand that though, what with Aramis being too brown.

He's not right. If you can't understand why somebody would be upset you're an idiot. It's a disingenuous response. We all have "the right" to do a lot of things that people would rightfully be annoyed as hell if we did them. Dempster has the right to lie to the fans and the front office about his intentions.

ABTY says Dempster has received death threats, is very shaken, and blames the Braves even more for the leak. Seems to think it will cost the foundation money. Basically no way he accepts trade to ATL now.

Pffft. That's just reasonable fan concern. Nothing wrong with that!

you were complaining about the thread. Don't be a hypocrite now.

If there were actual death threats, the odds that they came from a couple of the lunatics on here are rather high.

about as high as the odds that southsideryan will always pretend he's too cool to ever get upset about something bad happening to the Cubs.

At least in the last 4 hours.

That wasn't even the dumbest thing said on the show yesterday. Some clown from Yahoo Sports said that we shouldn't be attempting to trade Dempster. We should keep him and sign him to a multi-year contract when the season is over.

They were terrified of us getting Delgado back, they need less color.

Yes, he did say that, but he also went on to say that if Dempster refused all trades to contenders because he just wanted to stay a Cub, like Aramis last year, that he would lose a lot of respect for him.

He has the right to do it, it's in the rules. That's what I was saying. He's a dbag for doing it, but he's always seemed like one to me.

What are the possibilities of getting the best return we can for Dempster from L.A. and then trying to flip Garza to the Braves instead for a better return from them?

0% if Garza doesn't come back strong very soon.

I'm wondering with the amount of teams looking for higher end pitching, if MAYBE someone gets desperate enough to trade for him even if he doesn't pitch Monday. The only top end starters that appear to be out there are Greinke, Johnson, and Shields. Other starters supposedly available are Liriano and Vargas. I guess there's a chance Ian Kennedy or Cliff Lee become available, but that's about it. Plus, our 3 guys. Meanwhile, teams looking for high end pitching are the Blue Jays, Orioles, Red Sox, White Sox, Indians, Angels, Rangers, Braves, Nats, Cards, and Dodgers. I guess I could see a team getting antsy and throwing out a good offer on Garza.

Interesting quote from Wren : "We were able to keep the deal under wraps for about three days as we worked through a lot of details and it never leaked out. And then the second we got to the point of (the Cubs) taking it to the player, it was out everywhere."

Sure you could make such a desperate move, if you are only giving up fringe guys. But top prospects for a guy having an off year who is suffering from forearm cramps? I can't see it.

Forearm cramps? His current setback at the moment is tricep cramps, is it not?

Also this was posted on Roto a couple hours ago, but didn't see it in the thread (may not have gone back far enough)

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Dodgers are "increasingly confident" they'll be able to acquire Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.

It may be the only option for the Cubs, as Dempster has made it clear that he would prefer to pitch in Los Angeles rather than Atlanta. Braves general manager Frank Wren said during a radio appearance on Wednesday morning that the team has already "moved on" from a possible deal that would have sent right-hander Randall Delgado to Chicago.

Funny that it was a Braves beat guy that broke it.

Yep. Sounds like someone on the Braves side was a bit overconfident.

And way to be a pro there Wren. Throwing around blame.

I just can't tell if he's trying to give the blame to the Cubs or just Dempster.

Jersey, I tend to agree, but I guess it's possible. Peavy is the only injured guy I can remember getting traded.

well I don't remember exactly, some sort of premenstrual thing in his arm

A tricep cramp is probably nothing, and even Garza said it was weird but he'd be okay, and all the x-rays came back negative. You're acting like if he doesn't make ONE good start then no one will want to trade for one and a half years of his services. I think that's a little over the top. Teams can still trade for him based on his credentials and his performance history, and if there's an issue with his health, that's what physicals are for.

I just don't see how there is a 0% chance we could trade Garza UNLESS he makes his next start and is healthy. If he were a half season rental I could see the concern, but teams would get him for one more year and are able to obtain a draft pick as compensation if they let him leave. I don't see how that doesn't still have value to teams.

Who said the death threats came from Cubs fans? I know some Braves fans who are pissed that Dempster turned them down.

I was under the impression it was from Atlanta fans. Why would he be turned off on going to Atlanta if Cubs fans were sending him death threats?

"I got some really nasty death threats from some people in Chicago, so I'm going to stay here"? It had to have been from Atlanta fans. I don't think the garden variety meathead Chicago fan who would send a death thread would want to trade Dempster for Delgado, and I know a lot of Atlanta fans who didn't like Delgado

Dempster isn't black or any other kind of minority (other than ginger and Canadian) so that rules out Cubs fans as leaving threats. They only do that to the colored's

Most Braves fans who posted on forums and what not seemed to be rooting for the trade to fail, as they didn't think that Dempster was worth Delgado.

WSR seems to think we can pull the ol' switcheroo and slip Soriano in there for Dempster and finish the trade.
