And for the first time ever, I believe, I'm definitely in agreeance with Jersey on Garza: If I'm a GM, no way do I give up a haul for a guy who hasn't pitched since his "injury". Too close to the elbow to take a huge risk on. May be different if he were pitching better throughout the year.

first time ever? That's harsh.

``In his case, from my understanding - and I'm only getting it second hand from the Cubs - they had a meeting with him a couple weeks ago and laid it out, and the primary two suitors were us and the Dodgers. And he had positive things to say about both, and he had a slight preference to the Dodgers because of Ted Lilly. He and Ted Lilly are best of friends and he'd like to go play with his friend. And I think there were also some personal issues that suited better for him. And as it went down, from my understanding, the Cubs informed him in the last week that the Dodgers weren't really as aggressive as we were and they thought the deal was going to go with us. I think he was given a heads up along the way. I think it may be the way it was presented as far as coming out in the media [Monday]. I think that was blindsiding, not that he necessarily didn't know this was coming down.''

That doesn't paint a pretty picture for Dempster and places the blame for this debacle squarely on his shoulders. Without really knowing the details there isn't anything that Wren said that doesn't sound plausible. We don't know exactly what Dempster and Theo had agreed to however other than what Wren said which is second hand. Either way, Dempster nixed a trade that would have benefited the Cubs long term and for that he deserves to hear some crap from the fans (and FO). Death threats though? I highly doubt it and that sounds a lot like a player deflecting some of the immediate crap he thinks is coming his way.

No doubt. A team would be crazy to risk much on Garza at this point. Maybe he just had cramping because he wasn't hydrated enough, like Zambrano used to get with his forearm a lot. But I would not be willing to chance it right now...

Predicting a giant hole in the Cubs' clubhouse wall, as there was in St Louis after Garza left game with triceps cramping.

Sorry for the misunderstanding Ryan, that letter just meant The Dempster, THE! It's German.

If only someone would paint that on their chest in red for his next start at Wrigley

It's a tricep cramp. Has no one ever experience a tricep cramp before? It goes away after a couple days, if that. Also "Hasn't pitched since his injury"? He pitched on July 21st when the injury happened. His next turn in the rotation would be tomorrow, with or without the injury, but he happens to be having a kid at the time so he can't make that. Not an injury, but a child, and he's slated to pitch when he comes back, a couple days off from his routinely scheduled appearance.

You guys are chicken little-ing the [expletive] out of this.

I think it fits this situation pretty well, he screwed up and is now inventing some death threats.

If he doesn't change his mind and get dealt by the deadline, I'd sit him the rest of the year.

If you want to punish a guy, let him pitch with this kind of offensive production behind him for the rest of the season before he hits free agency. Maybe there's a few neanderthal GMs out there who still believe in the value of win totals for starting pitchers. Regardless, it can't be too much fun.

You sound ridiculous. Every report so far has indicated they aren't sure when he will pitch next. He might go Monday. But they don't know.

If he can't go before the deadline, that's a huge problem. Pretending otherwise is idiotic.

I don't know man. It seems that way. Actually, Bears related stuff, we see the same on, for the most part. Debating is fun though.

Why? Dempster was within his rights to torpedo the trade. He exercised those rights. How can you support punishing some one that has done nothing wrong?

Any injury to a pitcher's arm is kind of a big deal.....

It may be nothing, but I would not want to be the GM that makes a big deal for him, then finds out it's something more serious...

Heck of a way for Dempster to thank the organization that paid him to recover from a major injury and a big fat contract later on.

Atlanta probably not interested anymore and LA will be offering up Cesar Izturis' doppelganger with zero leverage now. Awesome!

I guess he stays a Cub and we hope to get compensation in free agency. Hope Lilly gets traded when LA signs him in the offseason.

The thing that he may very well have done wrong is lie to his bosses about his intentions.

If he said he'd accept trades to Atlanta or LA and then changed his mind after all the time that was spent working out a deal with Atlanta, he's done something wrong.

I don't think we can hope for any compensation.

If he agreed to be traded, then went back on it...

Like someone else already said, I was fine with Aramis not wanting to be dealt, because he said so right up front. Doesn't sound like that's the case with Dempster.

Not trading Garza by the deadline is not the end of the world, he's under contract for 2013.
