who replaced DJ with a competent player and can we keep this one?

That was by far the best game he has ever played for us. Also I was on the court before the game and near him, he's a midget. I can't believe how much smaller he is than what I thought.

Not watching the game, but according to the gamecast IU is up 14 and missed 6 of their first 10 FTs and have missed several layups. This team really needs to put up one of those defining FULL games against someone good. Not that Penn St. is good, but the first half vs. Minnesota was one of the top 3 teams in the nation. However on most nights, they look like a borderline top 15 team. Tough to complain about a 17-2 team, that is 9 points (including a last second shot) away from being undefeated, but IU hasn't even played consistently good like a legit preseason #1 can/should.

If Yogi Ferrell can be a threat with his shot that would be huge for IU. So far so good tonight.

Yeah by next year Yogi should be able be a real threat as a shooter. Im hoping this team can be special but next year could be a lot of fun with the athletes. Watford and Hulls will be replaced by much more athletic players. If Oladipo comes back u are talking perhaps the most athletic in the nation.

Duke goes down by 27, Northwestern beats Minnesota, Drake beats Creighton, Texas Tech beats Iowa State. Butler also lost at LaSalle which technically wasn't an upset but still a top 10 ranked team losing to a top 50-75ish team.

Ferrell's not even a good 2 point shooter next year, How "should" he be ale to be a real threat next year after removing all of Indiana's best players?

And as usual, how does Indiana work out the scholarship situation if Oldadipo stays? That leaves them 2 over assuming Zeller leaves.

Because Ferrell has years of being a good shooter behind him and a few months of struggling as a freshman. He's a solid shooter, he just hasn't shown it (last night was a good start).

With the best players leaving Yogi would presumably be taking more shots as the only returning starter. He also was a good shooter in HS. He also will have a full summer of working on his shot in thr gym he plays most of his games in.

Oh and Creek wont be on the team next year.....not that Oladipo is staying.

Are there a lot of guards who weren't "good" shooters in high school? Are there a lot of sophomores that aren't granted gym access in the summer?

Um, yes, of course there were guards that weren't good shooters in high school (and many such end up with D-1 scholarships). For an example, I saw Rajon Rondo play on multiple occasions in high school and he was a bricklayer. Shooting is a skill just like any other; it was clear that, say, Eric Gordon and Josh Smith weren't good ballhandlers even in high school. Next, yes, of course most/all players are granted gym access in the summer; however, not all players are equally hard workers and Ferrell is an extremely hard worker. It may not be dispositive; but it can't hurt.

Now, if your point is that Ferrell's solid AAU/high school shooting may never correlate to solid college shooting, I'd actually agree with that. Shooting in college is different on many levels -- tougher defense, more pressure to perform, deeper arc, etc. (Though I might also be inclined to argue it will be "easier" mentally for Ferrell to shoot next year when he's one of the first options). It's possible he will never shoot the same (relatively); however, it is not unreasonable, at all, for IU fans to expect Ferrell to shoot better in the future. He has a track record, albeit not in college, that he can.

As an aside, if we're having the latter conversation, I'm glad. I am nearly certain it wasn't you, but this is the same board that honestly (absurdly, insanely) believed that since Tyler Hansbrough shot forty-seven percent in NBA games he inherently shot forty-seven percent unguarded in practice.

I don't think Oladipo is coming back. He's not likely to have a year as good as this one, and he will have graduated.

Oladipo is gone. He's graduating in May. At last check, he's somewhere around a late first round prospect (31st on ESPN, with Chad Ford, for what that's worth, saying "Love him. One of my favorite players in the country. He’s gonna be a first round pick in this year’s draft. If he can convince scouts that his 45% shooting from beyond the arc isn’t a fluke — lottery isn’t out of the question.”). Why exactly would he come back?

The mental gymnastics this board goes to in hating IU is pretty comical. Out one side of the mouth, let's make fun of the couple IU fans that think Zeller will come back; out of the other side of the mouth, let's make up doomsday scenarios for when Oladipo comes back!

But education is important to the Zellers.

Stern would be smart to fix the lottery so the Lakers get first crack at Oladipo.

Hollowell would start shooting up draft boards if teams could ever find out why he didn't play those 3 games.

Yeah, I really didn't get the "He'll be a better shooter because he'll be more of the focus of the offense" bit, but it didn't fit my parallel structure. Reasonable that he'll shoot better? Sure, he's shooting like Daniel Moore this season. Reasonable that he "should be able be a real threat as a shooter?" Nope.

I can't imagine anyone here actually thinking that, but then there was the guy who was convinced Tennessee's women's team consistently beat the men's team, so who knows.

Lol, Norm Stewart, Missouri's coach from 1967-'99, is being honored as an SEC legend at the SEC tourney this year. He never coached in the SEC. And I believe he was vocally against MU leaving the Big 12. Other than that, makes perfect sense.
